Fall 2018 Midterm Grading Window: October 8-26

Posted:

The midterm grading window will open in Banner at 9:00 a.m. Monday, October 8, and close at 9:00 p.m. Friday, October 26. In addition to a midterm grade, faculty members can mark how regularly a student has attended a course by entering 0 (never attended), 1 (sporadic, unsatisfactory attendance), or 2 (consistent, satisfactory attendance) in the “Hours Attended” field. Midterm grade submissions for all registered students are useful, as these grades are helpful for campuswide academic intervention and retention efforts.

Students will be able to view their grades in Banner, Degree Works, and the Bengal Success Portal as soon as midterm grades are posted by faculty member. Advisers can obtain copies of the midterm grading reports for their academic intervention use through their deans’ offices.

Thank you for your commitment to our students’ success.

Reading by Poet Aldon Nielsen: October 12

Posted:

Aldon Nielsen, George and Barbara Kelly Professor of American Literature at Penn State, will read from his latest book of poetry, Tray (Make Now Press, 2018), at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 12, in Bacon Hall 115. These poems were inspired by the murder of Trayvon Martin in February 2012 and the activism in response to ongoing acts of violence against people of color in America. The reading and the Q&A session to follow offer an opportunity for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and even community members to learn more about the origins of the Black Lives Matter movement, its continuing influence over present-day political movements, and its transformation through creative forums like poetry. Dr. Nielsen will discuss his motivations for writing Tray, the history of racial violence and struggles to establish activist movements that inform the American political climate, and the real social work that art can do. Open to students, faculty, staff, and the community. Sponsored by the Grant Allocation Committee, the President's Council on Equity and Campus Diversity, the English Department, and the School of Arts and Humanities Dean's Office.

Casting Hall Presents 'The Space Between'

Posted:

Casting Hall Productions is proud to present The Space Between, a student-created and produced theater production, coproduced with the Anne Frank Project.

Meet Avery: smart, misunderstood, bullied, and raised by a single parent who just doesn't get it… You know, a typical teenager. When the time has come for Avery to discover her true self, she is launched into the outer space of her imagination, where planets teach lessons, stars shine bright, and comets send her on a hyperspeed journey back to her same tedious high school life. Will Avery use her fantastic voyage to stand up for herself or will she take a back seat to her life? The performance will be followed by a kinesthetic workshop to support and process the lessons in the story.

Created by students in the THA 470: Ensemble Theater class of fall 2017, the show toured the Buffalo Public Schools in advance of these on-campus performances.

Thursday, September 27; and Friday, September 28, at 8:00 p.m.
Saturday, September 29, at 2:00 and 8:00 p.m.
Tuesday–Saturday, October 2–5, at 8:00 p.m.
Tuesday, October 2, at 10:00 a.m. as part of the Anne Frank Project

All performances will be held in the Donald Savage Building's Flexible Theatre. Tickets are available through the campus box office at 878-3005 or at the door on a first-come, first-served basis. Please visit theater.buffalostate.edu for more information.
