Casting Hall Presents 'The Wolves' - Opening This Week

Posted:

The Buffalo State Theater Department and Casting Hall Productions are proud to present the award-winning play The Wolves, written by Sarah DeLappe.

The Wolves follows a team of girls preparing for battle. Challenging the depiction of young women in stories (often uniformly girlfriends, sexual objects, or dream girls), these girls are placed in a larger idiosyncratic web of unique identities: daughters, scholars, students, athletes—but most importantly, warriors aiming to win! A 2017 Pulitzer Prize finalist for drama, The Wolves has garnered nominations for the Lucille Lortel, Outer Critics Circle, and Drama League awards for best new play.

Buffalo State’s production of The Wolves is directed by Lorna C. Hill, lecturer of theater. The cast includes student actors Kayla Bennett, Alexanderia Bohannon, Cristalis Bonilla, Shae Brockington, Samantha Cruz, Mary Eddy, Mariah Faulkner, Janač Leonard, Tianna Livingston, Angelina Milkie, Emily Rinow, Yenessa Rodriguez, and Jomyah Yogar.

Performances on March 7, 8, 9, 13, 14, and 15 at 8:00 p.m., and March 16 at 2:00 and 8:00 p.m. in the Savage Theater and Communication Building's Flexible Theatre.

Tickets are available through the Rockwell Hall Box Office, 878-3005, or online.

Documentary Screening, Panel Discussion: 'Home Truth' - March 5

Posted:

Please join the Social Work Department for a screening and panel discussion of the documentary film Home Truth—an empowering story of one woman's transformation from victim to advocate in her pursuit of social justice against the backdrop of intimate partner violence—on Tuesday, March 5, from 6:00 to 8:40 p.m. in the Campbell Student Union Social Hall.

This event is free and open to the public, but registration is requested

About the film: "In 1999, Colorado mother Jessica Gonzales experiences every parent's worst nightmare when her three young daughters are killed after being abducted by their father in violation of a restraining order. Devastated, Jessica files a lawsuit against the police, claiming they did not adequately enforce her restraining order despite her repeated calls for help that night. Determined to make sure her daughters did not die in vain, Jessica pursues her case all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court and an international human rights tribunal, seeking to strengthen legal rights for domestic violence victims. Meanwhile, her relationship with her one surviving child, her son Jesse, suffers as he struggles with the tragedy in his own way. Filmed over the course of nine years, Home Truth chronicles one family's pursuit of justice, shedding light on how our society responds to domestic violence and how trauma from domestic violence tragedies can linger throughout generations."
