Title: Senior Staff Assistant / Assistant Director of Administrative Operations
Department: Administrative Operations (Division of the Finance and Management Office)
Wage: SL-3 UUP Salary Schedule

Buffalo State College is conducting an internal search seeking applications for the position of assistant director of administrative operations. The assistant director reports to the senior director of administrative operations and provides leadership and supervision across the Administrative Operations units: Central Receiving, Events Management, Mail Services, Moving Operations, Parking Services, Print and Design Center, and Property Control and Sustainable Programs. The assistant drector will contribute to the institution’s efforts to pursue innovative business practices and develop operating strategies that enhance efficiencies and lead to cost-effective administration.

The assistant director will also support and coordinate the logistics and operational needs of campus emergency response, including the successful coordination of campus COVID-19 testing, including scheduling volunteer staff; ordering and maintaining awareness of test kit inventory; ensuring that samples are delivered timely to local lab; and maintaining detailed knowledge of the portal software in order to be able to troubleshoot, manage exceptions, maintain smooth operations, and more.   

The successful candidate will be an experienced and proven administrative staff member able to provide vision, efficiency, and oversight to the varied functions within the Administrative Operations unit. Candidates should be committed to customer service, collaboration, and effective and efficient business practices. Candidates will have demonstrated ability to creatively find solutions and manage across multiple priorities and deadlines. The successful candidate will work collaboratively, skillfully, and effectively to serve Buffalo State’s mission consistent with the strategic plans of the college and the Finance and Management division.

Mindfully Preventing Screentime Burnout: November 9

Please join?Weigel Health Promotions?and?Pure Life Therapy?for an online discussion of tips and techniques to prevent screen-time burnout on Tuesday, November 9, at 7:00 p.m. We will cover how to recognize burnout and learn mindfulness techniques such as meditation and mindful movement. The movement will be demonstrated standing up, so please wear clothing that is easy to move around in, as you will be encouraged to participate. (Camera can be turned off for the movement).

Tell Students: 'Stop the Bleed' Tourniquet Training with ECMC - November 30

Weigel Health Promotions is pleased to offer “Stop the Bleed,” a free 60-minute class facilitated by ECMC that teaches students how to recognize serious bleeding and ways to control it, such as applying direct pressure, packing wounds, or using a tourniquet, on Tuesday, November 30, at 12:15 p.m. in Weigel Wellness Center 203.

All students will have the hands-on opportunity to practice these skills and will be issued a course completion certificate at the end of the class. Help our Trauma Team save lives by scheduling your Stop the Bleed course today. 

Please know that we can only accommodate a specific number of participants per training. Registration will be handled through a first-come, first-served process for those who complete this form. If the class is full, you will receive an email. Otherwise, we look forward to seeing you there!

Fitness Center Hours of Operations

The Buffalo State College Fitness Center, located in the Houston Gym, is now open to all students, faculty, staff, and community members during the hours of operations listed below:

Monday–Friday: 8:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: 10:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m.

The Fitness Center is free to all current undergraduate students. If you are a graduate student, faculty or staff member, alumnus, or member of the community, please see the membership cost options if you are interested in purchasing a plan. Masks must be worn at all times while in the Fitness Center. Please come with your symptom tracker completed and your ID card ready for the front desk staff. If you have any questions, please email Thomas Trzepkowski, emergency response and fitness coordinator. We look forward to seeing you in the Fitness Center!

Tell Students: Make a Plan to Vote on Election Day, November 2

Are you ready to vote in person on Election Day? To ensure that voting information is accessible and distributed to students across the campus, the Civic and Community Engagement Office has put together numerous resources for students on our YouTube and Instagram accounts.

To get ready to vote on November 2, here’s a checklist to help you create your voting plan:

  • I have confirmed that I am a registered voter.
  • I have looked up where my polling location is and have a plan for how to get there.
  • I have chosen a time between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. to arrive at my polling location to vote on Tuesday, November 2.
  • If I am a first-time voter, I have watched the 6 Easy Tips for First-Time Voters video.
  • I have researched candidates who will appear on my ballot on Ballot ReadyVote 411, or another nonpartisan website
  • I have the Election Protection Hotline number in my phone in case I run into issues at the polls: (866) 687-8683 English; (888) 839-8682 Spanish; (844) 925-5287 Arabic; (888) 274-8683 Bengali, Cantonese, Hindi, Korean, Mandarin, Tagalog, Urdu, and Vietnamese

The early voting period in New York State ends Sunday, October 31. If you want to cast your vote in person, consider going to an early voting polling location near you. All registered New York State voters are eligible to participate in this more convenient and accessible in-person voting opportunity. In most areas of New York State, voters can arrive in person to any countywide early voting location. Use the Vote Early New York website to confirm the polling locations available to you and the hours the polling location is open.  

Important reminders: 

  • Any registered voter is eligible to vote early in person during the early voting period.
  • Early voting in New York State is available at designated early voting sites from October 23 to October 31, including Saturday and Sunday.

Tell Students: Apply Online for an Absentee Ballot

New York State is now allowing all registered voters to apply for an absentee ballot online. Members of the Buffalo State College community can access the Board of Elections online portal through the Civic and Community Engagement Office’s website. Online applications for an absentee ballot must be submitted by Monday, October 18. We’ve also developed a short video to walk students through the questions that appear on the online form.

Additionally, members of the campus community can safely pick up and drop off voter registration forms in the Civic and Community Engagement Office, South Wing 120. A member of the CCE staff will drop off voter registration forms to the Erie County Board of Elections throughout the semester.
