The Teacher Education Council (TEC) will meet Friday, November 12, via Zoom only. TEC representatives will receive a meeting invitation and Zoom link via email, along with last month’s minutes and an agenda for review. All TEC representatives and Teacher Education Unit members are encouraged to attend. Non-members who would like to attend remotely may contact their TEC representative or Kathy Doody, associate professor of exceptional education, for Zoom log-in information.

Winterim, the period between the fall and spring semesters when a variety of activities are held on campus to support the intellectual, personal, and professional growth of faculty and staff, will be held January 18–21, 2022. Internal applications are being accepted for the following position on campus. This is an internal job posting open to employees of Buffalo State College who are currently paid from any state-appropriated-funds payroll:

Title: Assistant Dean / Executive Director of Academic Success
Department: Academic Success
Wage: SL-5 UUP Salary Schedule, or Competitive

Brief Job Description
The executive director of academic success responds to student concerns and guides students to academic success. The director assists with information sharing and campuswide programmatic coordination and supervision of Academic Success area offices. The director oversees the offices and program activities in the department including the use of evidence-based, higher education best practices for all area programs and services and data collection and analysis to determine program effectiveness and areas for improvement. The director assists the provost with special projects as needed.

Essential Responsibilities
Develop a comprehensive retention, engagement, and persistence framework to ensure that high-impact practices are delivered effectively.

  • Increase the number of opportunities for integrated learning, including learning communities.
  • Assess current learning community model’s effectiveness in yielding improved student outcomes and develop recommendations for improvement, if needed.
  • Assess existing academic support services to determine effectiveness and identify any gaps. 
  • Supervise the activities in Academic Success area units.
  • Ensure the use of evidence-based, higher education best practices for programs and services, and data collection and analysis to determine program effectiveness and areas for improvement.
  • Assist with information sharing and program coordination among Academic Success area offices.

The Theater Department and Casting Hall Productions are proud to present Heathers: The Musical, directed by associate professor of theater Jennifer Toohey. Book, music, and lyrics by Laurence O'Keefe and Kevin Murphy. Musical direction by Lucas Colon, ’19. Choreographed by Robin Barker. 

"Heathers: The Musical is the darkly delicious story of Veronica Sawyer, a brainy, beautiful teenage misfit who hustles her way into the most powerful and ruthless clique at Westerberg High: the Heathers. But before she can get comfortable atop the high school food chain, Veronica falls in love with the dangerously sexy new kid, J. D. When Heather Chandler, the Almighty, kicks her out of the group, Veronica decides to bite the bullet and kiss Heather’s aerobicized a**...but J. D. has another plan for that bullet."

Performances October 21, 22, 23, 28, 29 at 8:00 p.m. and October 30 at 2:00 p.m. in Warren Enters Theatre, Upton Hall.

ECMC will present “Let’s Not Meet by Accident,” a workshop about motor vehicle crashes and their common causes such as distraction and impairment, on Thursday, October 21, at 12:15 p.m. in Weigel Wellness Center 203. Learn about motor vehicle safety and how to avoid crashes during this 60-minute workshop.

Please stop by the Campbell Student Union lobby today, November 17, between 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to learn how you can support yourself or someone you care about who is struggling with emotional distress, mental health concerns, substance use issues, or other life challenges.

Endeavor Health Services, a nonprofit organization, will be on campus and available to help. Endeavor serves all in need. They offer discounted fees for clients who qualify and will not deny services based on a person’s inability to pay. Endeavor Health Services accepts a variety of insurances including Medicaid and Medicare.
