Brightspace Spring Cleaning: Organizing Your Course Content

Posted:

Now that you are using Brightspace for your course, are there things that you need to clean up?

  • Has your content been moved into Brightspace but you need to reorganize it?
  • Are there extra files in your course you don't need anymore?
  • Is your Gradebook “out of control” with extra grade items and columns you don't need?
  • Do you have video files you need to move to the media server?

In this in-person, hands-on workshop, "Brightspace Spring Cleaning: Organizing Your Course Content," we will go over these questions and have time during the session to assist you with moving and organizing your content to clean up your course.

This workshop is suitable for instructors currently teaching in Brightspace in any modality—face-to-face, hybrid, or online—but is not intended to replace the Brightspace Fundamentals Workshop series.

Workshops are held in Butler Library 314. Please register through the Workshop Registration System.

Immediately following these workshops will be one-hour open labs, where you are welcome to stay to continue working on your spring cleaning in Brightspace.

Tell Students: Alternative Spring Break 2023 Service Project - March 29, 30

Posted:

Buffalo State students are invited to take part in an Alternative Spring Break opportunity, a two-day food-access-focused service project that will introduce and support three community partner initiatives that address the food security need in our community, on Wednesday, March 29, and Thursday, March 30. We will be working with Five Loaves, an urban farming initiative; Big Big Table, a pay-what-you-can community café; and Provisions 139, a West Side food pantry.

The nontraditional ASB two-day event will not have an overnight component. All participants will return to their respective homes at the end of the volunteer day.

All are welcome to sign up (undergrad, grad, part-time, full-time, faculty, and staff). This 20-hour civic engagement service project is a great opportunity for participants to be introduced to the three partnering organizations, support meaningful food access initiatives in our community, and learn about new ways to be civically engaged.

Space is limited. Applications are being accepted now. Once the program fills, we will initiate a waiting list. There is also an opening for two ASB student leader positions. Inquire for more information.

Please contact Lisa Kragbé, assistant director of civic and community engagement, at cce@buffalostate.edu with questions.

Complete the registration form to apply. Registration closes Monday, March 20.

Spring 2023 Midterm Grading Window Opens March 13

Posted:

The midterm grading window will open in Banner on Monday, March 13, at 9:00 a.m. and close Friday, March 24, at 9:00 p.m. In addition to a midterm grade, faculty members can mark how regularly a student has attended a course by entering 0 (never attended), 1 (sporadic, unsatisfactory attendance), or 2 (consistent, satisfactory attendance) in the “Hours Attended” field. Midterm grade submissions for all registered students are useful, as these grades are helpful for campuswide academic intervention and retention efforts.

Students will be able to view their midterm grades in Banner, Degree Works, and the Bengal Success Portal as soon as they are posted. Advisers can obtain copies of the midterm grading reports for their academic intervention use through their deans’ offices.

Thank you for your commitment to our students’ success.
