New York State and Local Retirement System (ERS) Member Annual Statements

Posted:

The New York State and Local Retirement System (ERS) will be distributing its Member Annual Statements (MAS) during the months of May and June. The MAS contains valuable information that can help members understand their retirement benefits and plan for the future.

Member Annual Statements are mailed by ERS directly to members' home addresses, so it is important that ERS have your current contact information on file.

ERS members may sign in to their Retirement Online accounts to verify their mailing addresses and email addresses, and update information if needed.

Members may also receive their MAS faster by choosing to receive it electronically through Retirement Online. Go to the “My Profile Information” area of your account home page in Retirement Online, click “update” next to “Member Annual Statement," and choose “Email” in the drop-down menu. If you don’t elect to receive your MAS by email, it will be mailed to your address on file.

If you choose to receive your MAS electronically through Retirement Online, you’ll receive an email when your statement is ready to view. You will also have the ability to save and download an electronic copy of your statement.

Should you need to update any of your contact information, including your home mailing address, you may also do so in one of the following ways:

  • Complete and mail a Change of Address Form (RS5512) (PDF, 135 KB) online.
  • Mail a signed letter (including your name, previous address, new address, date of change, and registration or NYSLRS number) to

          NYSLRS
          Attn: Member Services
          110 State Street
          Albany, NY 12244-0001

  • Call (866) 805-0990. Please note: Your new address may not be a P.O. Box or non-U.S. address.

More information about the MAS is available on the Office of the New York State Controller website.

As a reminder, if you have had previous membership in ERS, or any of the following public retirement systems, your service may be transferred or re-credited, and your date of membership and tier restored:

  • New York State and Local Police and Fire Retirement System
  • New York State Teachers' Retirement System
  • New York State Employees' Retirement System
  • New York City Board of Education Retirement System
  • New York City Police Pension Fund
  • New York City Fire Department Pension Fund
  • New York City Teachers' Retirement System

You may also be eligible for retirement credit for any prior NYS public employment (e.g., municipal, town, village, city) even if you did not previously join a retirement system. This is also the case regarding military service you have had in the U. S. armed forces. To be eligible to receive credit for your military service under Article 20, you must meet certain criteria.

If you have questions about tier reinstatement or receiving additional service credit, please call ERS at (866) 805-0990.

DISCovering Communication Styles in the Workplace: Learning Ways to Manage Stress by Style - April 13

Posted:

Please join us for the professional development workshop "DISCovering Communication Styles in the Workplace: Learning Ways to Manage Stress" on Thursday, April 13, from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. in Butler Library 318.

DISC is a self-assessment tool that measures how an individual prefers to interact with others. DISC creates a common language and a self-awareness to better understand ourselves and others. The online DISC questionnaire takes only 10 minutes to complete. How can we use DISC to manage stress? We live in a fast-paced society, with many people, interactions, and demands. While we may not feel stressed all the time, every one of us finds ourselves in situations that cause us to feel stressed. When we are pressured or stressed, we simply don't have the same energy and focus to modify our styles; therefore, we become more of who we are naturally. If we have more self-awareness of our DISC style and our stress triggers and reactions, then we are more likely to be able to manage ourselves when we are in stressful situations.

Please register through the Workshop Registration System by Monday, April 3, to receive instructions on how to complete the DISC assessment.

Please contact Rebecca Eggleston, professional development assistant, with questions.

KidBiz Market Returns This Summer

Posted:

The Small Business Development Center is excited to announce that KidBiz Market will be returning for three Saturdays this summer. KidBiz is a small-scale entrepreneurial and educational program for third- through sixth-graders that culminates in an open-air market along bustling Elmwood Avenue.

To be part of KidBiz and sell items at KidBiz Market, a child and a parent (or guardian) must attend the Saturday training session, "Get Ready for KidBiz," on Saturday, April 29, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. in Newman Lecture Hall, Bulger Communication Center 215. Attendees will learn how to serve customers, how much supplies might cost, and how much to charge. Participants will get a KidBiz start-up kit and a KidBiz certificate.

What to sell? Anything that will fit on the table—old toys, sports cards, books, artwork, crafts, gently used clothing, homemade food or drinks. (It is best to stick with one idea and improve it from month to month.)

Market days are Saturday, June 24, July 15, and August 12.

If you have questions or would like more information, please contact Olivia Harbol, SBDC business adviser, (716) 878-4030.
