Registrar's Office: Cross-Registration and Off-Campus Study

Posted:

When working with students on options for taking classes elsewhere, please be sure that you are aware of the eligibility criteria that must be met for each of these programs: SUNY cross-registration and WNY Consortium cross-registration. Cross-registration is available for incoming (students coming to Buffalo State) and outgoing students (Buffalo State students going out) for spring and fall semesters only. Cross-registration is an articulation agreement, so eligibility criteria and deadlines must be met. No exceptions or grievance procedures are available. A student must be matriculated at his or her home institution in order to be eligible for cross-registration.

The OPEN SUNY website offers a search option for 100 percent online courses that can be filtered by many fields, including a comprehensive list of all courses by semester or by college or university.

Buffalo State students who would like to take a class elsewhere for J-Term or Summer Session may be eligible to participate in a different program; this is not cross-registration but off-campus study (PDF, 196 KB).

Daily Bulletin Readership Survey

Posted:

As the Marketing and Communications Office continues its evaluation of internal and external communication strategies, we would like to gather information about how the campus community uses the Daily Bulletin. We hope you will take a few minutes to complete the survey.

The results of this survey will help shape our approach for internal communications, including the Daily Bulletin, as far as frequency, format, design, and more. We are also exploring ways to expand the reach of an email newsletter product beyond campus faculty and staff, aiming to appeal to the Buffalo State community at large, including alumni.

As previously announced, the current web platform for the Daily Bulletin is Drupal 7 and must be updated. This is a good time to explore new possibilities for the Daily Bulletin.

We will compile and share results of this survey after it closes. Thank you for your participation.

Please contact Geoff Nason, director of communications and content strategy, with questions.

Drupal 7 Websites End of Life

Posted:

The Marketing and Communications Office has developed a feature-rich Drupal 10 website template that better mirrors current industry standards, as well as the university's main site. All other campus templates some upwards of 12 years old are in Drupal 7. Due to discontinued support, we must depreciate all Drupal 7 template sites.

Many campus sites have already adopted the new template. Samples include the Television and Film Arts; Elementary Education, Literacy, and Educational Leadership; and Music departments. Marketing and Communications has been assisting and will continue to directly assist academic departments by moving them into the new framework. Please file a ticket to initiate migration to the new template.

Campus websites are stand-alone installations and do not offer an automatic upgrade or import option for migration. If an office, center, area, or initiative still using a Drupal 7 template wants to move to the new look, that migration must be done manually. An alternative to moving is to shut down an outdated, unused, or low-traffic Drupal 7 site. If you wish to shut down a site, please file a ticket.

Because we support campus users with any transition to a new or greatly enhanced product, this new template has a separate, short, guided training session to accompany it. Drupal 10 training is provided virtually by Dan Schmidt, associate director of web development. Details are discussed during the ticket process.

Questions about the migration process or the new template may be directed to Melissa Meehan, web director, Marketing and Communications.
