Deborah Silverman, associate professor of communication, chaired a higher education PR panel, "What I Learned in College: PR Lessons from Counselors to Higher Education," at the PRSA Buffalo Niagara "Power PR" mini-conference on September 22 at the Ramada Hotel and Conference Center in Getzville. Panelists included Buffalo State Public Relations Director Jerod Dahlgren. Silverman, as national treasurer of the Public Relations Society of America, also gave conference attendees an update on PRSA National's advocacy efforts.
Zhang Jie, professor of sociology and director of the Center for China Studies, published his book Understanding Suicide: A Social Psychological Study in the Chinese Cultural Contexts (Beijing: Renmin University Press, 2016; in Chinese). Renmin University Press is one of the most prestigious publishers for academic works in China.
Yola Monakhov Stockton, assistant professor of fine arts, is lead curator for the exhibition The Future Perfect, on view at the International Center of Photography School in New York City through November 20.
A version of this show will go up in a shipping container at the Photoville festival in Brooklyn Bridge Plaza September 2125. As part of the event, Stockton will moderate a discussion about photography and education with Elinor Carucci, Stephen Hilger, and Fred Ritchin on Saturday, September 24, at the Photoville Pavilion at 60 Water Street Storefront.
Stocktons work will be part of the exhibition A Matter of Memory: Photography as Object in the Digital Age, curated by Lisa Hostetler, on view at the George Eastman Museum October 22January 29, with an opening on October 21.

Zhang Jie, professor of sociology and director of the Center for China Studies, and Robert Delprino, professor of psychology, published their paper "Quality of Life in Chinese Family Caregivers for Elderly People with Chronic Diseases," in the journal Health and Quality of Life Outcomes 14 (99): 19. The paper's coauthors are Xie Hui, Cheng Cheng, Yisheng Tao, Jihui Jia, and Yonggang Su.

Zhang Jie, professor of sociology and director of the Center for China Studies, published his paper "The Relationship between Impulsivity and Suicide among Rural Youths Aged 1535 Years: A Case-Control Psychological Autopsy Study," coauthored with Lin Lin, Li Zhou, and Chao Jiang, in the journal Psychology, Health & Medicine 21 (3): 330337. Lin Lin was a visiting scholar at Buffalo State three years ago.
