Zhang Jie, professor of sociology and director of the Center for China Studies, and Robert Delprino, assistant dean of the School of Natural and Social Sciences, published their paper "Psychological Health among Chinese College Students: A Rural/Urban Comparison" in the Journal of Child & Adolescent Mental Health 29 (2): 179–186. Qing Qi, the third author on the paper, was a visiting scholar at Buffalo State in 2014.

Zhang Jie, professor of sociology and director of the Center for China Studies, published his paper "Characteristics of the Chinese Rural Elderly Living in Nursing Homes Who Have Suicidal Ideation: A Multiple Regression Model" in Geriatric Nursing 38 (5): 423–430. The paper's coauthors are Zhang Dan, Yang Yang, Yaoyao Sun, Menglian Wu, Hui Xie, Kefang Wang, Jihui Jia, and Yonggang Su, all of whom are Dr. Zhang’s research collaborators in China.

Erin Alonzo, Associate Vice President, Enrollment Management

Erin Alonzo, associate vice president for enrollment management, has earned the Strategic Enrollment Management Endorsement from the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admission Officers (AACRAO). Alonzo is among an elite group of only 20 individuals to earn this endorsement nationally. AACRAO's Strategic Enrollment Management Endorsement Program provides a well-defined, self-paced professional development program for in-service enrollment service professionals. Admission to the program is competitive. This endorsement of enrollment management professionalism provides assurance of a strong foundation and understanding of enrollment management functions in a higher education setting.

Dan MacIsaac, Associate Professor, Physics

Dan MacIsaac, associate professor of physics, presented "Modeling Physics in the US," the second-day invited keynote speech at the WND2017: Werkgroep Natuurkunde Didaktiek - Universiteit Utrecht (Working Group Didactics of Physics), the Dutch physics pedagogical association conference, held at the Hotel NH Noordwijk Conference Centre in Leeuwenhorst, Netherlands, December 15 and 16. Roughly 600 teachers and teacher-trainers attended the conference.

MacIsaac's presentation is available via the Buffalo State website or the conference DVD. Kathleen Falconer, lecturer of mathematics, and David Abbott, instructional support specialist in the Physics Department, were acknowledged in the talk.

Lynn M. Boorady, Professor, Fashion and Textile Technology

Lynn Boorady, professor and chair of the Fashion and Textile Technology Department, received the International Textile and Apparel Association (ITAA) Teaching Excellence Award at the organization's annual conference, held in St. Petersburg, Florida, November 14–18. The award recognizes Boorady for her leadership and contribution to undergraduate and graduate education in her field. Award criteria include student mentorship, active pedagogy, presentations, and research as well as recognition of teaching excellence at the recipient's home institution. Boorady received the Buffalo State President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2016.

Carol Beckley, associate professor of theater, has been recognized as a featured member of the COTE Community for Leadership in the Open SUNY Community by sharing her expertise in online practices. Recently she hosted a webinar during the National Distance Learning Week webinar series. Attendees came from across SUNY, Nebraska, Massachusetts, and Virginia. She was also awarded a SUNY COTE Community Leader badge. Individuals who earn this badge have contributed to the continuous improvement, growth, and diversity of the online community of practice with their leadership of various Open SUNY COTE community of practice engagement activities. Open SUNY COTE community leaders are exemplary online practitioners who are willing to share their experience, expertise, support, and time and have made the commitment to act as coaches and mentors to others in the community.
