Sichuan University Troupe to Perform Saturday, February 18

Posted:

As part of the Chinese New Year celebration, the Center for China Studies has invited the Sichuan University Troupe to perform for the Buffalo State community and local residents on Saturday, February 18, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Warren Enters Theatre. The show is free and open to the public.

The Sichuan University performers will present classical Chinese songs, music, dance, and Sichuan opera (face-mask change). This event will showcase the joyous and harmonious atmosphere in which the Chinese people celebrate their most important festival and will bridge understandings about China and its culture.

Established in 1999 as one of the earliest university troupes in the western part of China, the Sichuan University Troupe is highly regarded for its unique performances depicting life from that part of the country. Its well-received programs have been shown around the world.

Questions can be directed to Zhang Jie, professor of sociology and director of the Center for China Studies, ext. 6425. We hope to see as many students and faculty as possible at this cultural event.

Midterm Grading in Banner for Spring 2012

Posted:

The midterm grading window will open in Banner at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 27, and close at 9:00 p.m. Friday, March 23. In addition to an estimated midterm grade, faculty can note how regularly a student has attended a course by entering 0 (never attended), 1 (sporadic, unsatisfactory attendance), or 2 (consistent, satisfactory attendance) in the “Hours Attended” field.

Although all faculty members can provide midterm feedback for any of their students in Banner, the Early Intervention Program (EIP) seeks information on particular student populations. As a reminder, all first-year and first-semester-transfer students are now included in the EIP program at the request of the College Senate. Faculty members with EIP students in their courses will receive a list of students requiring midterm feedback. Your comments concerning attendance and performance are deeply appreciated and quite helpful to us in our academic intervention efforts. Students will be able to view their grades in Banner after 9:00 p.m. on March 23.

Should you have questions or concerns, please call ext. 5222 or e-mail maldonhd@buffalostate.edu. Thank you for your commitment to our students’ success.
