July 1 Departmental Budget Allocations

Posted:

Since mid-June, Buffalo State has been engaged in the comprehensive monthlong SUNY process to prepare the university’s financial plan for 2012–2013. Initial allocations for state-appropriated accounts are established in this process and are loaded into the SUNY Management Reporting Tool (SMRT) application. We will advise you when July 1, 2012, departmental budget allocations can be viewed via the SMRT application.

In the interim, managers of State Purpose Fund accounts may view initial allocations for their departmental accounts via the 2012–2013 Budget Development Process files.

Please contact the Budget Office, ext. 4312, if you have any questions.

Portion of Iroquois Drive Closed July 10-11

Posted:

The partial closure of Iroquois Drive originally planned for Thursday, July 5, has been rescheduled to Tuesday, July 10, at 6:00 a.m. The closure is expected to continue until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 11.

The eastern portion of Iroquois Drive will be closed to traffic to facilitate the underground utilities rehabilitation project currently under way. For those entering Iroquois Drive from Grant Street, access to lots T, U, W, and Y will remain open, although no traffic will be permitted to pass through to Elmwood Avenue. Digital signs placed near the Scajaquada Towers will notify motorists of the closure.

Please refer to www.buffalostate.edu/construction for further information about current and upcoming construction projects. Questions about these infrastructure improvements can be directed to vpfm@buffalostate.edu.

New Burchfield Penney Docent Class Begins This Fall

Posted:

Share your love of art. The Burchfield Penney Art Center is recruiting new members this summer for the docent class of 2013. We seek adults from all backgrounds who have enthusiasm, a passion for learning, and an interest in art for our docent team. To apply, please contact Mary Kozub, museum education and tour manager, ext. 3156. Interviews will take place the first week of September.

The Role of Docents
Docents at the Burchfield Penney are museum volunteers trained as teaching guides. They bridge the viewer and the artwork, igniting conversation and curiosity. Our tour program uses an inquiry-based education model. Tours of all kinds are conducted at the museum, including those for school groups, adults, seniors, and social organizations. Important relationships have been established with the Alzheimer’s Association, Buffalo State, Campus West, and the Elmwood Franklin School. Since the new building opened in 2008, more than 35,000 people have gone on docent-led tours.

Being a docent provides many opportunities for fun and friendship while learning and growing through the arts. Docents have been an integral part of developing initiatives such as our Docent Library, the Burchfield Penney Book Club, and an array of specialty tour programs.

Additional information is available at www.burchfieldpenney.org.
