Professional Development: Making Course Content Accessible - PDF Files

Federal legislation requires that all course materials posted online or in a learning management system such as ANGEL be accessible for students with disabilities. This hands-on session will focus on how to create accessible PDF files from Word documents and best practices for scanning documents. Bring a flash drive with a Word file. This workshop will be presented by Meghan Pereira, Sumana Silverheels, and Beth Burns on Friday, October 12, from 10:00 to 11:15 a.m. in Bulger Communication Center 104.

Abraham Lincoln’s Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation Comes to the Burchfield Penney on October 5 and 6

The Burchfield Penney Art Center is pleased to host the exhibition The First Step to Freedom: Abraham Lincoln’s Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation on Friday, October 5 (10:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m.), and Saturday, October 6 (10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.).

The First Step to Freedom offers an unprecedented display of the only surviving version of the document in Lincoln’s handwriting as well as historical background and interpretation of the document. The exhibition also includes the manuscript of a speech written and delivered in New York City in September 1962 by Martin Luther King Jr. for the proclamation’s centennial.

The New York State Museum, a division of the New York State Education Department, has organized this exhibition to mark the sesquicentennial of Abraham Lincoln’s Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation. Admission is free.

Visual Books on Display!

What fits into the palm of your hand and has eight pages, a hard cover, and not a word? A visual book, sometimes called a book work or artist's book! Come and see examples of visual books created by students in Carol Townsend's Introduction to Two-Dimensional Design class on display in the library cases (opposite the faculty cases) in E. H. Butler Library. Topics include time, ballet, ancient travel, op art, and dance. These selected pieces will be on display until October 12, at which time they will be replaced by a second group of these special visual treats!

Students will learn how they can earn 6 credits by attending weekly workshops during the spring semester followed by three weeks of travel in Puerto Rico during this information session today at 12:15 p.m. in Bacon Hall 115. Siena Film Screening: 'I Giorni Del Palio' (The Days of the Palio)
