Federal legislation requires that all course materials posted online or in a learning management system such as ANGEL be accessible for students with disabilities. This hands-on session will focus on how to provide textual alternatives to nontextual content such as graphs, images, and charts. Bring a flash drive with graphs, images, charts, or tables from your content area. Presented in E. H. A new workshop format being developed is called Quick Concepts. Because everyone is busy and may not be able to attend a regular two- or three-hour workshop, Quick Concepts will offer one-hour workshops that key in on specific topics, such as how to set the line spacing, margins, and default fonts in Word 2010.

Columbus Day Holiday: Classes in Session

This year, classes are scheduled on the Columbus Day holiday, Monday, October 8. Department heads and supervisors should communicate to their classified and professional employees whether they will be required to work on that day.

For employees who are required to work, the following state attendance rules will apply:

Classified employees who work on October 8 will be compensated according to their holiday waiver status. Those who have not elected to waive additional money for holiday work will receive holiday pay per their bargaining unit agreements. Employees who waived additional money for holiday work will receive compensatory time off instead of additional holiday pay. Classified employees who wish to inquire about their current holiday waiver status may call the Payroll Office at ext. 4124.

UUP-represented and M/C employees who are eligible to observe holidays and are required to work on October 8 will be granted a compensatory day off. The compensatory day off should be scheduled at a time agreeable to the employee and his or her supervisor within one year of the holiday.

Employees who are not required to work on October 8 do not need to charge leave accruals for that day.

Faculty members who would like to learn more about the federal requirements for master’s theses and projects with human participants are invited to attend an Institutional Review Board workshop on Monday, October 22, from noon to 1:00 p.m. in Bishop Hall 18. The workshop will cover protocol submission guidelines, levels of review, and tips for making sure the review process is a smooth one.
