Celebrate the start of a new semester with a Friday Happy Hour at the Burchfield Penney on September 10 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. with Buffalo State and WBNY-FM alum Rich Wall serving as DJ.

The campus community is warmly invited to attend a free showing of Into the Arms of Strangers: Stories of the Kindertransport, on Thursday, September 16, in Rockwell Hall Auditorium starting at 7:00 p.m. This film is shown as part of the Anne Frank Project and will be presented by the film's producer, Deborah Oppenheimer.

Please join the Student Accounts Office in honoring two staff members, Carolyn Paige and Maxine Smith, who will be retiring after nearly 70 years combined of dedicated service. On September 15, a reception will be held in the Admissions conference room from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Please stop by and wish them well.

Response from last year's conference consistently mentioned our students as a major positive force of the Anne Frank Project (AFP). We have been overwhelmed with student requests from all over campus to directly participate in this year's conference, September 15–17. Please send all students interested in participating to our mandatory AFP volunteer meeting tomorrow, Thursday, September 9, during Bengal Pause in the Warren Enters Theatre, Upton Hall.

The Equity and Campus Diversity Office will provide grants of up to $1,000 for programs, projects, workshops, and/or activities that infuse diversity or multicultural issues into the curriculum and/or extracurricular activities at Buffalo State. The projects must reflect a commitment to the college core value of respect for diversity and individual difference.

After 36 years of service to our students, faculty, and staff, Carol Phillips is retiring. Carol worked in the Financial Aid, Payroll, and Accounts Payable offices during her 36 years at Buffalo State.

"Tuesday Talks" are brown bag luncheons with a purpose...to discuss various topics of interest.

Fostering active and collaborative learning in large, content-heavy classes is challenging. Using techniques such as interactive assignments, participatory reviews, and effective openings can help address the challenges of active learning in large classes. This session will focus on using Turning Point clickers, both traditional and mobile, as an engaging and effective teaching tool on campus. Turning Point has been selected as the college’s supported student response system. See how to create questions for classroom use. Learn how to borrow clickers to try them with your classes.
