Catherine Cardina, professor and chair of the Health, Nutrition, and Dietetics Department, presented an interactive session with colleagues (C. M. Seymour, M. Hemstrought, O. Cordero, M. Ertel, J. Lindauer, and V. Ramsey) at the Society for Health and Physical Education 2024 National Convention, held March 12-16 in Cleveland, Ohio. Their presentation was titled "A.I. in PETE and HETE Programs: Avoid & Immoral or Adopt & Integrate?" In addition, she and her colleagues (X. Fan, S. Treadwell, and T. Ha) conducted a poster presentation regarding their current research project, "The Impact of the Global Pandemic on Teaching Physical Education."

Theresa Cinotti and Chris Heximer, clinical faculty members from the Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic in the Speech-Language Pathology Department, were invited guest speakers for the Williamsville Central School District's Superintendent's Conference Day on March 8. Ms. Cinotti presented "Addressing Memory in School-Age Children: Considering Auditory Processing and Cognitive Components," and Mr. Heximer presented "Stuttering: Treating People (First) and Their Inner Landscapes." Each of their talks ran well over an hour.

George Hole, SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor Emeritus of philosophy, published his second book of poetry, The Sky's the Limit (Buffalo Arts Publishing, December 2023). He also published an essay, "Two Monks: Six Variations," in Philosophical Practice, the journal the American Philosophical Practitioners Association (APPA) 18 (3): 3221-3226.

Leigh Duffy, assistant professor of philosophy, presented her paper "Know Thy (Non-) Self: Meditation, Psychedelics, and Personal Identity" as part of the Philosophy and Culture Panel at the 54th annual conference of the Popular Culture Association, held in Chicago, Illinois, March 27-30. The paper will be published as a chapter in the The Palgrave Handbook of Philosophy and Psychoactive Drug Use this summer.

Reigstad, professor emeritus of English, was the subject of an in-depth Page One profile of the Saturday, March 23, edition of the Niagara Gazette, where he once worked as a copy editor and contributing writer. The article, "New Book by Local Author Recounts Twain's Experiences in the Falls, WNY," highlights Dr. Reigstad's scholarly career in Mark Twain studies and describes his new book, The Illustrated Mark Twain and the Buffalo Express: 10 Stories and Over a Century of Sketches (Globe Pequot/North Country Books, 2024).

Sourav Biswas, assistant professor of chemistry, presented his outreach research activity, "Valorization of Plastic Waste via Advanced Separation and Processing," at the Emerging Researchers National (ERN) Conference in STEM, held in Washington, D.C., March 14-16. The activity, conducted through the Research Experience and Mentoring (REM) program at the University at Buffalo during summer 2023, focused on PET depolymerization for recycling, with Buffalo State undergraduate students being introduced to this process during "Clean Energy" training sessions under the "Empowering Sustainable Futures" initiative. Pre- and post-activity assessments were conducted to gauge student understanding, and plans for expansion to include other plastics and industry collaborations are underway. Dr. Biswas expressed gratitude to the National Science Foundation (NSF) for financial support.

Regarded as the "Oscars" of the public relations industry, Silver Anvil Awards single out the best strategic public relations campaigns of the year. The Silver Anvils Awards ceremony will be held in New York City in June.
