Annemarie Franczyk, associate professor of journalism, has been named a 2024 Faculty Champion by the Center for Community News at the University of Vermont. She was among 38 honorees recognized for helping forge a sustainable future for local news through university-led reporting programs.

CCN Faculty Champions is a national initiative to support the people running local news reporting programs at U.S. colleges and universities across the country. News-academic partnerships have emerged as a critical contributor to the national news landscape and one solution to the crisis facing local news. Dr. Franczyk has been instrumental in forming the Institute for Local News at SUNY.

Steven S. Sypniewski, assistant campus planner and manager of Buffalo State's Maud Gordon Holmes Arboretum, has received the 2024 Certified Nursery and Landscape Professional of the Year award from the New York State Nursery and Landscape Association (NYSNLA). The award, which recognizes an individual's extraordinary commitment to the green industry, his or her family and community, and the betterment of others through the Certified Nursery and Landscape Professional Program, was bestowed at the Great New York State Fair in Syracuse, New York, on August 21. The NYSNLA is a statewide professional trade association dedicated to advancing New York's nursery and landscape industries through promotion of sound business practices supported by education, relationships, and advocacy.
