Grants to support research and creative activities are available through the Undergraduate Research Office. The Small Grants Program is designed to provide partial support for travel, supplies, or other materials for undergraduates conducting projects during the academic year. The deadline for submitting applications is October 26. Applications can be printed from the Undergraduate Research Web site.
The annual Homecoming/Parents Weekend Food Drive to benefit the Buffalo State Food Pantry will be held Friday, October 21, from noon until 3:00 p.m. Those interested in donating canned or nonperishable food items should contact Tom Koller at ext. 6514 or kollertc@buffalostate.edu. Members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be canvassing the campus on October 21 picking up your donations.
The 10th annual Student Affairs Professional Conference will be held on Saturday, November 19, at the Buffalo Marriott Niagara. The steering committee invites the campus community to participate. Dr. George Kuh from Indiana University Bloomington will be the keynote presenter, and the conference will feature 18 workshops dealing with issues and challenges in higher education. Dr. Kuh's focus will be related to his recent publication, Student Success in College. The conference is jointly sponsored by the SPA graduate program, the School of the Professions, and the division of Student Affairs. Those who are interested in attending the conference should take advantage of the early bird special registration:
Around the world, more than 800 million people in 83 countries are chronically hungry. In the United States, approximately 11 percent of the population is classified as “food insecure” and does not always have access to enough food to meet basic needs (USDA, 2002).
The next meeting of the College Senate is Friday, October 14, at 3:00 p.m. in E. H. Butler Library 210. The agenda for the meeting is available on the College Senate Web site. Interested faculty and staff are invited to attend.
The Faculty-Student Association is accepting applications for grants to enhance the educational and cultural life of the Buffalo State College campus. A total of $20,000 is available for programs.
