Class of 2010 to Be Welcomed at First-Year Convocation

Faculty and staff are invited to welcome the Class of 2010 to Buffalo State College during First-Year Convocation at 3:30 p.m. Friday, August 25, in Rockwell Hall auditorium. Those who would like to march should contact University College (ext. 5906) and assemble at 3:00 p.m. for an unranked processional. A picnic and fair in Rockwell Quad, featuring special games and foods for each of the four schools and University College, will follow the ceremony.

Internet Upgrade Scheduled

AT&T will be upgrading the speed of the campus Internet connection (from 35MB to 45MB) on Tuesday, August 15, at 8:00 a.m. This maintenance will result in a short period (approximately 15 minutes) in which no Internet connectivity will be available to or from the campus network. Once the upgrade is complete, all access should return to normal.

July 1, 2006, Departmental Budget Allocations

July 1, 2006, Departmental Budget Allocations for state-appropriated accounts are now posted. Managers can access this information using the SMRT (SUNY Management Resource Tool) Application. If there are any questions about initial allocations or account access, please call the Accounting Office (ext. 4117) for IFR accounts or the Budget Office (ext. 4312) for State Purpose Fund accounts.

Web Server Maintenance Scheduled for This Sunday, July 30

Computing and Technology Services will be performing maintenance on one of the servers that supports the college Web site on Sunday, July 30. Please do not post to the campus calendar, news release database, or the Daily between 5:00 p.m. and midnight on Sunday. Note: The campus Web site will not be available during those hours, but key applications not hosted on www.buffalostate.edu (SABRE, Degree Navigator, ANGEL, e-mail) will still be accessible. Weigel Health Center Temporarily Relocated

The Weigel Health Center building will closed on Wednesday, July 26 and Thursday, July 27. The Health Center staff will be temporarily relocated to E. H. Butler Library 315, and they will provide some basic services at this location. Unforeseen problems with repairs to the Health Center building necessitated the move.

Web Server Upgrade Scheduled for This Sunday, July 16

Computing and Technology Services will be upgrading one of the servers that supports the college Web site on Sunday, July 16. Please do not attempt to post any entries to the campus calendar, news release database, or the Daily between 5:00 p.m. and midnight on Sunday. A brief period of downtime for the campus Web site (no more than 15 minutes) should also be expected sometime during those hours.

Ductbank Installation Continues Along Rockwell Road

The east entrance to Parking Lot F (Power Plant side) will be closed starting Monday, June 26 to install a telecommunication manhole and ductbank. On Tuesday, June 27 and Wednesday, June 28, the contractor will dig across Academic Drive for the ductbank installation. One side of Academic Road will be closed to traffic at a time and a flagman will be located at the site to direct traffic. Work will then continue west through Parking Lot F with one of the four entrances to the lot closed at any given time. Construction areas will be fenced off as work continues to move west through Parking Lot F. If you have any questions, please contact Campus Services at ext. 6111.

President's Annual Staff Appreciation Picnic

The President’s Annual Staff Appreciation Picnic is Wednesday, June 21, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Rockwell Quad. If you are a supervisor of staff members invited to the picnic, we ask that you work with those staff members so that their schedules will permit them to attend and enjoy the event.

Invited guests are asked to bring your food tickets for admission to the picnic. Supervisors of student assistants should register their student workers by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 20 by calling Angela Berti at ext. 3866 or e-mailing bertiap@buffalostate.edu. Student assistants will not need tickets but need to check in at the registration table on the day of the picnic. If it rains, the picnic will move to the Campbell Student Union Social Hall and the campus will be notified on Wednesday morning via e-mail.

The President will also host a pizza and wings party for second and third shift support staff in the Campbell Student Union lower lobby at 11:00 p.m. on June 21. If you have not confirmed your attendance, please do so by contacting Angela Berti.

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, this day has been approved as a Casual Dress Day so that staff may enjoy the picnic! Thank you.

Power Shutdown Saturday, June 17

In order to make critical repairs to the campus electrical system, the following buildings will be without power between midnight and 4:00 a.m. Saturday, June 17:

Bacon Hall, Bishop Hall, Buckham Campus School, Bulger Communication Center, E. H. Butler Library, Campbell Student Union, Campus House, Cassety Hall, Caudell Hall, Chase Hall, Cleveland Hall, Houston Gym, Ketchum Hall, Moot Hall, Neumann Hall, Porter Hall, Rockwell Hall, Donald Savage Theater and Communication Building, Sports Arena, and Upton Hall.

All other buildings will be unaffected. At the close of business on Friday, June 16, occupants of the above buildings should shut down all networked computers. Other devices/appliances can remain in their normal operating state. It is possible that some networked computers, especially those that were not powered down, may experience network connectivity issues when powered back up. Such issues, if any, will be fully resolved by Monday morning, June 19. Questions or concerns regarding this scheduled outage may be referred to Customer Service at ext. 6111. Campus Closed Tomorrow, Saturday, June 3

Buffalo State College must conduct an emergency repair of its main electrical service supply to the entire campus. All campus electrical service will be shut down between the hours of midnight and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2006. All buildings will be locked and the campus will be closed while electrical service is shut down.

By 5:00 p.m. Friday, June 2, campus constituents are asked to turn off all business and office machines, including computers, and auxiliary devices such as heaters, air conditioners, fans, coffee machines, etc. Refrigerators should be left on with doors closed.

Minimal electrical service will be provided for the Science Building to sustain critical laboratory conditions; however, neither air conditioning nor elevator service will be provided.

Computing and Technology Services functions will be sustained on auxiliary power; however, the college Web sites may not be available from off campus.

University Police will provide additional security patrols during the electrical shutdown.

Questions or concerns regarding this emergency repair should be referred to Customer Service, ext. 6111.
