Survive and Thrive: Essentials for Starting Your Own Business

The Small Business Development Center presents “Survive and Thrive: Essentials for Starting Your Own Business,” a workshop covering all the essential information needed to start a business, on Wednesday,
August 13, from 8:30 a.m. until noon in the Burchfield Penney Art Center (second floor).

Specific topics will include creating a business plan; competition analysis; and tax, legal, and insurance issues. The workshop is free for Buffalo State faculty, staff, students, and alumni and U.S. military veterans and $20 for all others. Registration will take place immediately before the workshop, from 8:00 to 8:30 a.m. To register in advance, call the SBDC at ext. 4030. Spot Coffee will be open for breakfast and lunch during the summer, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Today and every Friday during the summer, Buffalo State Dining is paying it forward with a specialty faculty, staff, and student appreciation discount lunch featuring a cookout in the Student Union Quad from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This will replace the normally featured hot entrée selection at Spot Coffee in the Campbell Student Union Food Court. Select one entrée, two sides, and a beverage from the cookout menu for only $5. Today's menu includes hamburgers, hot dogs, turkey burgers, kielbasa, corn on the cob, potato salad, and watermelon.

Workshops: TurningPoint and Blackboard Integration

Two workshops designed to demonstrate the integration of TurningPoint and Blackboard Learn will be available in the coming weeks: Wednesday, July 16, and Wednesday, August 13. Intended for instructors familiar with TurningPoint, these workshops will highlight the new automated features of participant list creation, grading, quizzes, and attendance. They will also cover how to import class sessions into the Blackboard Grade Center. The sessions will offer time for hands-on practice and Q&A. Both workshops will be held at 1:00 p.m. in Bulger Communication Center 104. Presented by Tim Sager and Meghan Pereira.

Child Care Center Car Wash and Hot Dog Sale

The Buffalo State Child Care Center will host a car wash and hot dog sale on Thursday, July 17, to help support its summer camp. The event will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Lot F in front of the Child Care Center playground. Donations are $5 for a car wash, $2 for a hot dog and lemonade. There will also be a baked goods sale.

Social Enterprise 101 Workshop: July 25

The Small Business Development Center now provides assistance for entrepreneurs seeking to directly address social and environmental problems through their businesses. A workshop titled Social Enterprise 101 will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 25, in Cleveland Hall 205 to introduce you to the SBDC's social enterprise counseling services. The workshop will cover the following four areas of training: social business planning; legal form for social entrepreneurs; social impact measurement and reporting; and financing your social enterprise.
