Bicycles Removed for Safekeeping

As part of the Bicycle Larceny Prevention Program, University Police officers have found several bicycles on campus that were not locked to a bicycle rack. Those bicycles were removed and taken to the University Police Department in Chase Hall for safekeeping. If you left your bicycle unlocked on campus, please come to University Police to claim your bicycle as soon as possible.

Assessment and Evaluation Sessions for K-12 Students at the Buffalo State Literacy Center

The Buffalo State Literacy Center, Bacon Hall 227, offers free literacy assessment and evaluation for children (grades K–12) of Buffalo State students, faculty, and staff members. Sessions are on Wednesdays from 5:00 to 6:45 p.m. There are five sessions and one parent conference. Parents receive a diagnostic report with instructional recommendations for home and school. Children who attend become eligible for one-on-one tutoring for the spring semester. Sessions begin October 22. Please e-mail Keli Garas-York, associate professor of elementary education and reading, to register.

Tickets are going fast! Please tell your students to join us on Friday, November 7, from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Campbell Student Union Social Hall for an evening of dining, etiquette, and networking for the new professional. A “mocktail” party with appetizers will teach students how to mingle with employers and make positive first impressions, followed by a five-course gourmet dinner. Instruction will be provided by professional etiquette experts.

Tickets are $15 each, are nonrefundable, and must be purchased in advance at the Bengal Card Office, Butler Library 108, by Tuesday, November 4. Dining Dollars and Bengal Bucks may be used. For more information, please contact the Career Development Center, Cleveland Hall 306, ext. 5811.

Communication Alumni Reunion: September 19

Buffalo State’s Communication Department will hold an alumni reunion on Friday, September 19, from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. on the balcony of Coles restaurant and bar, 1104 Elmwood Avenue. Drinks and appetizers will be provided. Registration is $15 per person for alumni and $20 for non-alumni, including partners and colleagues. Registration is available online or at the door.

Tell Students: Study-Away Fair September 24

Buffalo State's annual Study-Away Fair will be held Wednesday, September 24, from 9:00 a.m. to noon in the Student Union Plaza. Buffalo State regularly offers study programs in Australia, China, England, Italy, the Netherlands, Quebec, and Spain as well as other short-term programs that vary from year to year. Students can speak with representatives from Buffalo State’s International and Exchange Programs and National Student Exchange offices as well as study-abroad advisers from 20 other SUNY campuses who will also be on hand to provide details of some of the more than 600 SUNY programs in nearly 60 different countries.

This event is sponsored by the International Education Office. We look forward to seeing you there.

Constitution Day Celebration: The Potential for a Momentous Year

All members of the Buffalo State community are invited to this year's Constitution Day celebration scheduled for Tuesday, September 23, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the Campbell Student Union Assembly Hall. Peter Yacobucci, associate professor of political science and a public law scholar, will lead a discussion of the most important cases before the U.S. Supreme Court this term, including those dealing with restrictions on free speech, affirmative action in university admissions, and abortion rights as well as other pressing constitutional issues. After introducing the cases, Yacobucci hopes to engage the community in a spirited discussion of the role of the Constitution and the court in our daily lives.

Buffalo State Celebrates Constitution Day and Citizenship Day

Thursday’s Year of the Innovator opening celebration, “Dare to Innovate!” has been designated as Buffalo State’s official Constitution Day and Citizenship Day event.

Three Buffalo State alumni will share their stories of success during a panel discussion on Thursday, September 18, at 6:00 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center at Rockwell Hall. The two-hour event also includes stories from two other local entrepreneurs in an interactive discussion that is free and open to the public. The event is sponsored by the School of the Professions.

McNair Scholars Program Recruitment

The McNair Scholars Program at Buffalo State is seeking high-achieving undergraduate students from all majors and especially from the STEM fields. The program prepares students for graduate study through a variety of scholarly and research activities. Please inform any student who you feel qualifies for this program.
