Purchase Requisition Deadlines for the End of the Fiscal Year

Posted:

Requisitions for supplies, materials, services, and equipment from fiscal year 2014–2015 funds must be received in the Procurement Office by the close of business on the following dates:

$20,000 or more (noncontract)
Friday, May 15

$20,000 or more (state contract)
Friday, May 15

$2,500 to $19,999
Friday, June 5

Under $2,500
Friday, June 12

Furniture orders (all)
Friday, June 12

Purchase requisitions for computer equipment and equipment replacement requirements, as well as purchases through Staples/OfficeMax for office supplies, also must adhere to these deadlines.

In order to make ordering at the end of the fiscal year a smooth process for everyone, please do your best to plan your ordering as far in advance as possible to make sure you have the supplies you need before the cutoff dates. Sending in your requisitions well before the cutoff dates will give Procurement Services the time it needs to make sure your orders get placed before the deadlines.

Important note: It is the responsibility of departments to ensure that all requisitions for fiscal year 2014–2015 are received in the Procurement Office by 4:00 p.m. on the above deadline dates. Requests received after the deadlines will be held until the start of the next fiscal year.

Please call Steve Olsen in the Procurement Office at 878-4113 with questions.

Inaugural Induction: Tau Sigma National Honor Society

Posted:

SUNY Buffalo State inducted its inaugural members into Tau Sigma, a national honor society for transfer students, during a ceremony on Saturday, April 11, in the Campbell Student Union Social Hall.

To be invited to join Tau Sigma, transfer students must have completed at least one year’s worth of credits at the institution they transferred from as well as earn a minimum GPA of 3.5 during their first term at Buffalo State. Our inaugural class of 67 had an average cumulative first-term GPA of 3.74 and represent 30 majors on campus. The Zeta Zeta Chapter of Tau Sigma at Buffalo State will be advised by Maria Kendzierski, admissions adviser.

The society's mission states: "Tau Sigma is an academic honor society designed specifically to 'recognize and promote the academic excellence and involvement of transfer students.'" Auburn University is the home of the first chapter of Tau Sigma and houses the national headquarters, and all but eight states have chapters. Several other SUNY schools have chapters, including SUNY Buffalo and SUNY Fredonia. Buffalo State's is the 148th chapter.

President Katherine Conway-Turner, vice president for student affairs Hal Payne, associate vice presidents Erin Alonzo and Daniel Vélez, and director of admissions Carmela Thompson attended the ceremony. Special thanks to Ted Mallwitz, admissions intern, and to our newly selected 2015–2016 board: co-presidents Nicholas Klender and Patrick Miller, vice president Michelle Felong, treasurer Brittany Bennett-Allis, and secretary Lauren Maynard.

Documentary, Panel Discussion - 'Anita: Speaking Truth to Power' - April 16

Posted:

The Beyond Boundaries: Dare to Be Diverse Screening and Discussion Series presents the documentary film Anita: Speaking Truth to Power on Thursday, April 16, at 7:00 p.m. in the Burchfield Penney Art Center. Panelists will be Theresa Harris-Tigg, assistant professor of English, and Josephine Greco, attorney with Greco Trapp, PLLC.

An entire country watched transfixed as a poised, beautiful African American woman sat before a Senate committee of 14 white men and with a clear, unwavering voice recounted the repeated acts of sexual harassment she endured while working with U.S. Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas. That October day in 1991, Anita Hill, a bookish law professor from Oklahoma, was thrust onto the world stage and instantly became a celebrated, hated, venerated, and divisive figure.

Hill’s graphic testimony was a turning point for gender equality in the United States and ignited a political firestorm about sexual misconduct and power in the workplace that still resonates today. She has become an American icon, empowering millions of women and men around the world to stand up for equality and justice.

Against a backdrop of sex, politics, and race, Anita reveals the intimate story of a woman who spoke truth to power. Directed by Academy Award–winning filmmaker Freida Lee Mock, the film is both a celebration of Hill’s legacy and a rare glimpse into her private life with friends and family members, many of whom were by her side that fateful day 22 years ago. Hill courageously speaks openly and intimately for the first time about her experiences that led her to testify before the Senate and the obstacles she faced in simply telling the truth. She also candidly discusses what happened to her life and work in the 22 years since.

Beyond Boundaries: Dare to Be Diverse is curated by Ruth Goldman, Meg Knowles, Michael Niman, and Jason Parker and is co-sponsored by the Buffalo State Communication Department, the Equity and Campus Diversity Office, the Burchfield Penney Art Center, and the Grant Allocation Committee. This event is free and open to the public.
