Buffalo-Lille Association Inc. Welcomes Rochester-Rennes (Brittany) Sister City Committee: April 28

Everyone is welcome to attend the next meeting of the Buffalo-Lille Association Inc. as we welcome the Rochester-Rennes (Brittany) Sister City Committee on Tuesday, April 28, at 7:30 p.m. in Butler Library 210. The two associations linking France and the United States will compare notes and plan for future joint projects. Refreshments will be served. The meeting is free and open to the public.

Arthur O. Eve Educational Opportunity Program Honors Convocation: May 7

The Arthur O. Eve Educational Opportunity Program will celebrate the exemplary academic performance of its outstanding students at the annual Honors Convocation on Thursday, May 7, at 3:30 p.m. in Rockwell Hall Auditorium. This year's theme is "Imagine, Believe, Achieve: Because of Buffalo State EOP, I Am Reaching for the Stars."

The program will start with a video spotlight of student testimonials and a spoken word performance by the EOP Women’s Empowerment Group. Highlights of the program include the presentation of special awards to students, staff, and faculty. A Distinguished Alumnus Award will be presented to Carlton Sapp, Ph.D., Class of 1993. Recognition is given to students who have obtained a 3.0 semester or cumulative GPA during the 2014 calendar year. The campus community is invited to attend the program, with a catered reception to follow. RSVP to Cathy McCoy, keyboard specialist 2, 878-4426.

Tell Graduate Students: Elections and Research Fair

The Graduate Student Association is currently holding its election for the 2015–2016 executive board and college committee seats. All matriculated graduate students are encouraged to read about the nominees and cast their votes. More information is available to eligible students through the GSA Blackboard Group. Voting will end at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 28.

The GSA will host its second annual Graduate Research Fair on Friday, May 8. All interested students should register through the GSA website. Registrations must be received by Wednesday, April 29. All faculty and staff members who are interested in attending should RSVP to gsaresearchfair@gmail.com by Friday, May 1.

Tell Students: Careers Workshop for History Majors and Minors – April 29

Worried about what to do with a history major? The History and Social Studies Education Department and the Career Development Center will host a workshop on career options for history majors and minors on Wednesday, April 29, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. in Classroom Building C214. Faculty members and CDC staff members will discuss careers outside of the classroom, how to market skills learned as a history major or minor, where to look for job ads, and an introduction to services offered by the CDC.

The 17th annual Student Research and Creativity Celebration (SRCC) will take place Friday and Saturday, May 1 and 2. The full program (PDF), including the final schedule, is now available online from the home page of the Undergraduate Research website. There will be 380 posters, talks, exhibits, and performances with over 450 student presenters. Don't miss a minute of the largest SRCC ever!

New Startup Discussion and Networking Group for Faculty and Staff

All faculty and staff members are invited to attend the first meeting of a new startup discussion and networking group on Thursday, April 30, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Campus House.

Are you developing your research or creative projects into a startup company or other commercial venture? This meeting is designed for those with experience or those interested in issues such as “tech transfer,” external contracts, coordinating with SUNY, or licensing and patents. The aim is to share mutually helpful information with fellow faculty and staff members as this aspect of our campus’s research and creative pursuits grows.

Light snacks and a nonalcoholic beverage will be available; you needn’t be a Campus House member to attend. For more information, please contact Stephani Foraker, associate professor of psychology and chair of the Research and Creativity Council.

Commencement Regalia Rental Deadline Extended to April 24

The rental order deadline for academic regalia for Commencement marchers with guaranteed hood colors and standard shipping charges has been extended to Friday, April 24. Please visit the Commencement website to register to march in Commencement and for regalia order instructions. Your participation as a faculty or staff marcher is deeply appreciated. Additional marchers are greatly needed.

Alternatively, volunteer ushers may register online to assist with Commencement as well. Your help with greeting guests, assisting with the graduate lineup, and distributing booklets is also greatly needed and deeply appreciated. Ushers do not wear academic regalia.

Thank you very much for your support in honoring our Class of 2015.

Business and Communication Faculty Members Invited to Discuss Open Resources: April 30

Please join Butler Library and Instructional Resources for coffee and a discussion on increasing flexibility and student satisfaction by using open educational resources (OERs) in your business and communications classes on Thursday, April 30, at 12:30 p.m. in Butler Library 314.

Many high-quality open resources are available to faculty and students in various levels of business and communication. We will discuss and review some of these resources, provide tips and tricks for incorporating them smoothly and successfully in your courses, and explain the benefits and opportunities for OERs in the classroom.

Coffee and light refreshments will be provided. This discussion is part of a series of events tailored to individual disciplines.

Need Office Furniture- Consider Surplus

Before you purchase something new, please consider looking through the campus surplus warehouse. It is stocked with a variety of office furniture, including desks, tables, bookcases, bulletin boards, chairs, and filing cabinets. All equipment is free for campus departments to use, and by using surplus equipment, you will help us reduce, reuse, and recycle on campus.

Please call Business Services at 878-6835 to set up an appointment to come over and take a look. We have a tremendous inventory!

In response to feedback received at a recent open forum, Finance and Management has begun to gather its Daily Bulletin messages and announcements in an online location that can be bookmarked for convenience: A new announcements page on the Finance and Management website compiles links to divisional announcements from the Daily Bulletin. Please visit this page to stay current with information about business and finance, Human Resource Management, campus operations and facilities, and University Police.
