Celebration of Life Memorial Service: April 27

Posted:

This year’s Celebration of Life Memorial Service will take place on Thursday, April 27, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Campbell Student Union Assembly Hall. Please join us.

For the past 16 years, Buffalo State students, faculty, and staff have come together to celebrate the lives and memories of those who have passed away during the last year. This event is a meaningful tradition at Buffalo State that provides a forum to remember those members of our Buffalo State community who are no longer with us. This nondenominational, spiritual celebration honors their lives through music, poetry, readings, and the lighting of candles. The name of each deceased individual will be read aloud, followed by the ringing of our memorial bell.

The Celebration of Life Memorial Service is coordinated by the Counseling Center and supported by numerous campus departments. If you are aware of someone who has died since April 1 of last year, and if you would like to add his or her name to the list of remembrances, please e-mail the Counseling Center today with the relevant information. Thank you.

Don't Throw It Out - Donate It! Volunteers Needed

Posted:

EVERGREEN will hold its 11th annual collection of appliances, food, clothing, and furniture as students are moving out of the residence halls for the summer. The collection will be held daily May 8-12 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. All collected items will be donated to local nonprofit organizations. Four collection vehicles will be centrally located outside the residential halls.

Volunteers are needed to sit in the vehicles and collect donations from students, and to secure the donations inside the vehicles. Volunteers are needed for the full-time slot (11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.) each day of the week. Please let us know if you can help—one day or all five!

Annual Eyeglass Collection

Posted:

EVERGREEN will be collecting eyeglasses and sunglasses during the month of April. Drop boxes will be located in the Campbell Student Union lobby by the Information Desk, and in Butler Library by the Circulation Desk. Glasses can also be sent through campus mail to EVERGREEN, Moore Hall 124.

By donating your glasses you are helping people with eyesight difficulties worldwide. With the price of glasses exceeding three months' average salary in some African countries, donated eyeglasses are the only feasible way to bring sight to many visually impaired.

Thank you for your help.

National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day: April 29

Posted:

Saturday, April 29, is National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, and Buffalo State will host a drop-off site from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Cleveland Circle (front of Cleveland Hall).

Recent news about the detection of prescription drugs in drinking water has caused concern about the impact on human health. Also, storing expired or unwanted medications in your home increases the risk of accidental poisoning. Help protect our water and your safety by disposing of medicines properly through collection and incineration.

Please bring medications in their original labeled containers; blacken out personal information. The following items will be accepted, no questions asked:

  • prescription or over-the-counter medications (any type, expired or unwanted)
  • syringes
  • inhalers
  • liquids
  • ointments
  • patches

Please DO NOT bring mercury-containing or radioactive products.

For a full list of drop-off locations or more information, please visit the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration website or call (800) 882-9539.
