I am pleased to announce that Robert Delprino, professor of psychology, has accepted the position of assistant dean in the School of Natural and Social Sciences, effective September 1. Dr. Delprino’s long experience with student advising in a number of capacities, as well as his experience in a variety of leadership roles in campus strategic planning and accreditation efforts, make him an excellent candidate for this position. I am very happy to welcome him to his new role in the dean’s office.

Governor Cuomo Directs Flags to Half-Staff August 29

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has directed that flags on all state government buildings be flown at half-staff on Tuesday, August 29, to honor Information Systems Technician 2nd Class Corey George Ingram of Poughkeepsie and the nine other sailors killed in the collision involving the USS John S. McCain on August 21. The Navy said on Monday that the remains of all 10 men had been recovered.

"The entire New York family grieves for Petty Officer 2nd Class Ingram and the nine other sailors on the USS John S. McCain who lost their lives serving our country," Governor Cuomo said. "These sailors answered the call to serve this nation and defend its values, and we will be forever grateful for their service and their sacrifice. We will lower flags on state government buildings on Tuesday in honor of Petty Officer Ingram and his nine fellow sailors who were killed in the collision."

Student Move-In Days: Parking and Traffic Notice

Monday, August 21, through Saturday, August 26, are the designated move-in days for resident students. To accommodate the move for our nearly 2,800 residents and their families, temporary changes to campus parking and traffic flow will be made as follows.

Some parking areas, especially those near the residence halls, will be reserved for move-in activity and will not be available for faculty, staff, or student parking. Please read and observe the changes below in order to make accommodations for on-campus parking during the Residence Life move-in days. The following areas will be used for move-in activity:

Thursday, August 24
Lot R-1 (Rockwell Road) from Cleveland Circle to Academic Drive
Lot R-6 (Academic Drive) - Parking spaces designated for people with disabilities will be available.
Lot I-39 (Tower Lot)
R-7 (Union Place)
R-14 (Student)

All cars parked in Lot R-14 must be removed by 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, August 22, in order to have all check-in stations set.

Student Apartment Complex
Bengal Drive and Bengal Walk and the sidewalk between Upton Hall and the Science and Mathematics Complex (SAMC)

Perry and Cassety Hall move-in will be accessed via the roadway west of SAMC (Bengal Drive) with egress between Upton and SAMC

Porter, Neumann, and North Wing Hall move-in will be accessed via Rockwell Road and Grant Street.

Towers 1, 2, 3, and 4 move-in will be accessed via Iroquois Drive through the I-39 lot.

University Police officers, University Police student assistants, and Residence Life staff members will be available to direct students and their families to their designated check-ins and halls. We ask that you please make yourself aware of this information before the designated move-in days. We apologize for any inconvenience, and we thank you for your cooperation as we welcome our new and returning resident students to Buffalo State.

New Senator Orientation for all newly elected faculty, staff, and student senators who will serve on the College Senate for the 2017–2018 academic year will take place on Tuesday, September 5, during Bengal Pause (12:15–1:30 p.m.) in the Carmine A. Grande Conference Room, Cleveland Hall 418. New senators are strongly encouraged to attend so that they can become familiar with Senate protocol before the first College Senate meeting on Friday, September 8. The first College Senate meeting of the fall 2017 semester will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, September 8, in Butler Library 210. The meeting schedule is posted on the College Senate website. Please visit the College Senate website to catch up on past Senate news, listen to podcasts of past meetings, read minutes from past meetings, or review meeting summaries.

The College Senate Office is located in Cleveland Hall 211. Howard Reid, professor of psychology, will serve as chair of the College Senate for the 2017–2018 academic year. Campus Mail Delivery Interruptions Expected Thursday

Routine campus mail delivery will endure service interruptions this week to accommodate the previously announced relocation of the central mail processing facility from Moore Complex to Clinton Center. Appointment: Director of International Student and Scholar Services

The Global Engagement Office (formerly International and Exchange Programs) announces Tricia Herritt as the director of international student and scholar services. Ms. Herritt has served at Buffalo State since January 2016 as the director of international education and has worked in SUNY supporting students for the past 19 years. As director, she will work with both students and scholars on F-1 and J-1 visas. Currently, Buffalo State hosts almost 250 students and scholars on visas. Ms. Herritt will also continue to support students and faculty during our search for a director of international education working with study-abroad and National Student Exchange until that position is filled.
