Opioid Overdose Training: April 16

The New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services will provide naloxone training on Monday, April 16, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Caudell Hall 209. Naloxone is a medication used to reverse opioid overdose. Upon completion of the training, participants will be provided with a naloxone kit. For more information, please contact the Weigel Wellness Center Health Promotions office or visit the Weigel Health Promotions website.

In Memoriam: Duane J. 'Bunny' Andersen

The Buffalo State community is saddened by the death of Duane J. “Bunny” Andersen, professor emerita of design, who died March 26, 2018. Ms. Andersen retired in 1986. She is survived by her sister, Carole Andersen Foy. Private services will be held at a later date. More information is available online.

In Memoriam: Robert Squeri

The Buffalo State community is saddened by the death of Robert Squeri, professor emeritus of fine arts, who died January 17, 2018. Dr. Squeri retired in 1979. He is survived by his daughter, Dianne Squeri Smith; and his partner, John Hules. A service will be held in San Francisco, California, on Sunday, April 22. More information is available online.

Meet the Community Policing Advisory Committee: April 24

Please join the Community Policing Advisory Committee (CPAC) and the University Police Department (UPD) on Tuesday, April 24, from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. in the Campbell Student Union Fireside Lounge. The CPAC would like to bring university police officers and the community members they serve together over coffee to enhance communication and learn more about each other. Help bring the Buffalo State Community Oriented Policing Philosophy alive (PDF, 79 KB). Attending is an easy way for faculty, staff, and students to get to know the men and women of University Police who serve and protect our campus community. This is a great opportunity to chat with CPAC members and UPD officers to ask any questions you may have. The CPAC is partnering with Chartwells Dining Services to provide this community policing event.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes: April 29

Join Weigel Health Promotions and Crisis Services for the 13th annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event, an international men's walk to end rape, sexual assault, and gender violence, on Sunday, April 29, at Harriman Hall on the UB South Campus. Registration starts at 11:00 a.m, and the walk begins at 1:00 p.m. Please show your support. Donations benefit the Crisis Services Advocate Program.

Buffalo State's dedicated VALIC financial adviser, Raelynn Harlach, will offer one-on-one consultations for faculty and staff members on Wednesday, April 11, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. in Cleveland Hall 416. 

These consultations are a great was to enroll in the plan, get answers to any questions you may have about the 403(b) or ORP, provide a current review of your VALIC account, or complete a Retirement Pathfinder to see if you are on track for retirement.

Tell Students: Alternative Break Week Activities - April 9-13

The Civic and Community Engagement Office's Alternative Break Student Leadership Team will host a variety of events on campus next week, April 9–13. Alternative Break Week is designed to provide students with the opportunity to get connected to student leaders, learn more about the program, and provide opportunities for Buffalo State students to serve the community.

Grant Street Cleanup
Monday, April 9 | 11:00 a.m.–1:30 p.m.
Learn about the West Side as you assist with spring cleanup efforts. You’ll be led by student leaders and provided with snacks, gloves, garbage bags, and other cleanup necessities. Meet the team in South Wing 137 at 11:00 a.m. or noon for an hour and a half of service.

Motivation Booklets for Buffalo Public Schools Students
Tuesday, April 10 | 12:15–1:30 p.m. | South Wing 137
Decorate and provide inspiration for motivation booklets for elementary and middle school students. Markers, stickers, and paper will be provided. Bring meaningful quotes or your own pieces of advice to pass on to the younger generation. Snacks provided.

On-Campus Service Projects
Wednesday, April 11 | 5:00–7:00 p.m. | Ketchum Hall 219
Lend a hand in creating homemade laundry soap and reusable grocery bags to benefit our community partners, None Like You/We Care and the Matt Urban Hope Center. Stop in for 15 minutes or the full two hours to contribute to these service projects. Snacks provided. 

De-stress with Alternative Break
Thursday, April 12 | 12:15–1:30 p.m. | South Wing 137
Take some time for yourself and de-stress. Relax with some tea, color, and learn a few yoga techniques that you can do at your desk to stretch out and refresh your mind when you’re working on assignments. Stop by for 10 minutes or the full Bengal Pause. Snacks provided.
