Runway Fashion Show: April 21

Posted:

The 11th annual Runway fashion show, produced by the Fashion and Textile Technology Department, will be held Saturday, April 21, in the Campbell Student Union Social Hall, with one show at 3:00 p.m. and the evening show at 8:00 p.m.

The theme for Runway 11, “Interconnect,” is an instrument used to connect two things together—where community, curiosity, culture, and creativity meet and open a dialogue for change. Fashion evolves into creating solutions that result in new actions.

Student tickets for the afternoon show only are $10 in advance, $15 at the door; general admission is $15. The evening show is $25 for general admission and $100 for VIP, which includes a pre-show party, reserved seating for the show, and a fabulous swag bag. There will be a huge basket raffle at the event so come prepared to have fun! Tickets for the show and the raffle can be purchased online. Students will also be selling tickets in the Campbell Student Union on Tuesdays and Thursdays between noon and 1:30 p.m. on April 12, 17, and 19.

All proceeds from the Runway fashion show benefit the students of the Fashion and Textile Technology Department. Thank you for your support.

Professional Development Workshop: 'Managing the Polarities of Organizational Change' - April 24

Posted:

Please join us for the professional development workshop "Managing the Polarities of Organizational Change," presented by Melissa Miszkiewicz, director of RITE strategic partnerships, on Tuesday, April 24, from 12:15 to 2:15 p.m. in Butler Library 181B.

As a college or university changes, issues and systems can quickly increase in complexity, which can lead to change resistance. Many times these issues or systems cannot be "fixed" using traditional problem-solving techniques to identify an "either/or" solution, because they are polarities, dilemmas, or paradoxes that have two or more right answers that are interdependent. Participants in this session will learn how to identify and manage the polarities caused by organizational change. Specifically, participants will learn how to distinguish a manageable polarity from a solvable problem, identify polarities, select a polarity, and map the polarity to a long-term resolution.

Lunch will be provided, sponsored by the Buffalo State chapter of United University Professions (UUP). Please register through the Workshop Registration System.

Donate Your Unwanted T-Shirts

Posted:

The Civic and Community Engagement Office will once again collaborate with the Matt Urban Hope Center to turn unwanted T-shirts into reusable grocery bags during New Student Orientation this summer. The center will use the bags in their food pantry, thereby reducing plastic from our waste stream.

At least 300 clean, used T-shirts of varying sizes are needed for this project. Please drop off shirts in the Civic and Community Engagement Office, South Wing 130, or contact us to have someone stop by your office to pick them up. Thanks so much!

Call for Nominations: Celebration of Community Engagement Awards

Posted:

Nominations are now being accepted for Celebration of Community Engagement Awards. The awards recognize students, faculty, staff, and community partners who make a difference locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally through civic and community engagement initiatives throughout the academic year. This year's award recipients will be recognized on Tuesday, May 8, from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. in the Campbell Student Union Social Hall.

Three new faculty awards bring recognition to early career, mid-career, and faculty leaders in community engagement, and the campus community is encouraged to nominate deserving students, student groups, community partners, faculty members, or classes for their outstanding achievements in fall 2017 and spring 2018 community engagement activities.

Help us recognize individuals who have gone above and beyond this year. Information and the nomination web form can be found on the CCE website. Nominations will be accepted through Monday, April 30.

Rotaract Club Spring Bake Sale Appreciation

Posted:

Thank you to all who showed their support for Buffalo State’s Rotaract Club during its spring bake sale on April 9. We were able to raise a grand total of $268, the proceeds from which will be donated entirely to the Food Bank of Western New York Food for Kids initiative. Mary Codick, secretary 1 in the Teacher Certification Office, was the lucky winner of the gardening-themed raffle basket. On behalf of the Rotaract Club officers, we cannot thank you enough for all the support to help make our bake sales a true success!
