Tickets on Sale for 'Cabaret'

Posted:

The Buffalo State Theater Department and Casting Hall Productions proudly present Cabaret in Upton Hall's Warren Enters Theatre. This production is directed by Jennifer Toohey, assistant professor of theater, and adapted from the book by Joe Masteroff. Music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb.

In 1930s Germany, Cliff is a struggling American writer seeking inspiration for his next novel. His life is forever changed when he enters the seedy Kit Kat Klub. Soon he is swept up in a strange and mysterious world of indulgence, sex, drinking, and (of course) dancing while the Nazi party ominously rises to power in the background. Featuring performances from Buffalo State’s dance company and a gender-bending cast—all presided over by a mysterious, omnipresent "Master of Ceremonies"—Cabaret promises to be a deeply moving and unforgettable evening. Willkommen!

Tickets can be purchased online, by phone at 878-3005, or in person at the Rockwell Hall Box Office.

Special pricing for preview night, Wednesday, April 18, at 8:00 p.m. Performances April 19, 20, 26, 27, at 8:00 p.m. and April 21 and 28 at 2:00 and 8:00 p.m.

USG Dental Clinic Closing

Posted:

After 40 years serving the students at Buffalo State, the USG Dental Clinic will be closing its doors for the final time on May 10, 2018. Regrettably, a SUNY audit determined that USG could not continue to operate a dental clinic on campus. We would like to thank the dedicated staff, including director Amy Roeder, for their service and commitment to USG and the students, faculty, and staff of Buffalo State. We appreciate the confidence the Buffalo State community has shown in the clinic by supporting us throughout the years.

Service-Learning Faculty Fellows Program: May 23, 24

Posted:

Apply now for the 2018 Service-Learning Faculty Fellows Program and join the 80-plus faculty members who have participated in the past to engage over 10,000 students in community-based learning. This two-day training will take place May 23 and 24. Details can be found on the Civic and Community Engagement website.

Service-learning faculty fellows will acquire an in-depth understanding of community engagement pedagogies and their use in service-learning courses during this intensive two-day training program facilitated by nationally recognized experts. Participants will be supported through the process of converting an existing course or creating a new course which incorporates service learning.

Research demonstrates that connecting the classroom to the community through service learning is an effective pedagogical strategy. College students who participate in civic engagement learning activities not only earn higher grade point averages but also have higher retention rates and are more likely to complete their college degree. They also demonstrate improved academic content knowledge, critical thinking skills, written and verbal communication, and leadership skills. Learn the skills and techniques necessary to incorporate this effective teaching methodology.

Announcements

College Senate Nomination Period Begins Today

Posted:

From the Chair of the College Senate Bylaws and Elections Committee
The Senate nomination period for two faculty at-large seats and one faculty or professional staff at-large seat begins today and runs through Friday, April 20. The three at-large positions will become vacant on August 31, 2018. At-large senators represent the entirety of the college. All full-time faculty and professional staff members (PSC) are eligible to seek the position provided they meet other eligibility requirements (see below).

A call for nominations and information about candidates’ statements can be found on the College Senate website. The call for nominations for all positions began at 12:01 a.m. today, April 16, and continues through 5:00 p.m. Friday, April 20. Elections for these positions will run from 12:01 a.m. Monday, April 23, to 11:59 p.m. Friday, April 27.

Senate elections conducted by the schools of Arts and Humanities, Education, Natural and Social Sciences, and the Professions as well as the Professional Staff Caucus (PSC) should be concluded before the election cycle for the at-large seats.

Eligibility: Current College Senate members who are completing two consecutive terms in their respective positions are not eligible for reelection. For additional information on eligibility requirements, please consult the College Senate bylaws.

Campaigning: The College Senate Elections and Bylaws Committee strongly discourages using college e-mail services for campaigning. Please limit campaigning to the candidate statement posted on the College Senate website (available to the college community beginning Monday, April 16).

Please note: Individuals running for a senator position in another election may not also run for at-large positions while the other election is being conducted. If the other election concludes during the period when nominations for at-large senator positions are still being accepted, eligible individuals may self-nominate for an at-large position.

If you are interested in being a candidate, please contact Vince Masci, assistant to the College Senate, 878-5139. We look forward to your participation in the vital process of campus governance.
