Accessibility Tip: Purchasing New Hardware or Software, or Choosing a Textbook?

Posted:

Before you purchase new hardware or software, or choose a textbook for your course, please ask if the vendor has a Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) for the product. A VPAT provides the buyer with information on a product's compliance with Section 508 accessibility standards.

If you need further assistance, please request a training session from Instructional Design and Training.

Academic Success: Academic Misconduct on Campus

Posted:

As the semester winds down and student stress ramps up, the temptation for students to engage in academic misconduct may increase. Faculty members should be aware of the college’s Academic Misconduct Policy (PDF, 144 KB) and follow this policy to address related issues.

Please note that the policy was revised in spring 2017. Key changes include expanded examples of academic misconduct, improved process directions, and a revised Statement of Resolution (PDF, 31 KB).

Please contact the Academic Success Office with questions about procedures included in the Academic Misconduct Policy.

Alternative Break Spring Fundraiser: Order Deadline Extended to April 30

Posted:

The Alternative Break Student Leadership team is hosting its fourth annual spring fundraiser to provide monetary support to students who would otherwise not be able to participate in an alternative break service trip experience as a Buffalo State student. The Alternative Break program hosts service trips throughout semester breaks to give students the opportunity to volunteer with nonprofit organizations to meet community-identified needs as they learn about social issues. Additionally, these experiences give students an opportunity to open their horizons, serve communities, develop teamwork and leadership skills, and build strong bonds with new friends. Through this fundraiser, we hope to raise money to allow more students to participate in these experiences, regardless of their financial situation.

You can assist us in one of the following ways:

  • Purchase a locally grown, organic seedling. We are selling Genovese basil (sweet basil), oregano, marigold, teddy bear sunflower, and hollyhock seedlings to bring beauty, bees, butterflies, and bounty to your yard. Seedlings arrive on May 10 with planting and care instructions. A variety of seedling combinations can be ordered to meet your needs: 1 for $3 or 2 for $5. (We also have a few small spider plants for sale.)
  • Purchase a mason jar gift. A mason jar gift is a festive gift for someone in your life who would enjoy chocolate cake, chocolate chip cookies, yellow cake, quick bread, or brownies. Dry ingredients are artfully displayed in the jar, accompanied by baking instructions, as well as suggested ingredients for variations. For $8, mason jar gifts make a great gift for a host, Mother’s Day, or your child’s teacher. These arrive on May 10.

You can submit your order for seedlings and mason jar gifts online by Monday, April 30. Orders will arrive on Thursday, May 10. The Alternative Break student leadership team thanks you for your support!

If you have any questions, please e-mail alternativebreak@buffalostate.edu.

RITE Support Desk Moving to Bulger

Posted:

The RITE Support Desk will be relocated to Bulger Communication Center 200 and 204 during the Butler Library renovation project. Furniture and staff will begin moving in stages during the week of May 21. There will be brief periods of reduced staffing resulting in limited walk-up and telephone service.

The telephone lines for 878-HELP (4357) will be moved the afternoon of Friday, June 1. For the quickest response time during the move, we encourage faculty, staff, and students to request services and report issues using the RITE Self-Service Portal.

Full service operations will resume Monday, June 4.
