Please Support Fundraiser for Royden Cave’s Family

Posted:

The Buffalo State College community was devastated by the tragic death of 19-year-old freshman Royden Cave on March 13. We continue to hold his family in our thoughts.

Royden was a native of Brooklyn, New York, and a criminal justice major who became a friend to many on campus. Known for his quick smile and warm personality, Royden enrolled at Buffalo State with great passion and anticipation for the next chapter of his life. We want to honor his memory through this fundraiser.

Please consider donating to support the Cave family during this difficult time. The Buffalo State community and the Cave family are grateful for every donation.

'Artists/Educators' Reception: Tonight

Posted:

A reception to the celebrate the artists featured in the Artists/Educators exhibit in the Czurles-Nelson Gallery will take place today, April 7, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Upton Hall lobby. All are welcome, and refreshments will be served.

The special exhibition, sponsored by the Art and Design Department, opened March 23 and closes today. The exhibit features the work of artists who take on the enormous task of educating our youth while still creating artwork of their own to share. These artist-educators are some of our invaluable community partners. They provide essential real-world learning opportunities to our preservice art teachers—allowing them into their schools and classrooms, acting as mentors, and working with us to ensure that the torch of visual arts continues to be passed on to new generations. This exhibition allows our college community to enjoy their artwork, but it is also meant as a gesture of gratitude for all the great work they do with their own visual art students and our Buffalo State art education students.

Please contact Marie Bogner, Czurles-Nelson Gallery coordinator, (716) 878-4390, with questions.

Celebration of Life Memorial Service: April 19

Posted:

This year’s Celebration of Life Memorial Service will take place on Tuesday, April 19, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the Ciminelli Recital Hall at Rockwell Hall.

For the past 21 years, Buffalo State College students, faculty, and staff members have come together to celebrate the lives and memories of those who have passed away during the last year. This event is a meaningful tradition at Buffalo State that provides a forum to remember those members of our Buffalo State community who are no longer with us. This nondenominational, spiritual celebration honors their lives through music, readings, and the lighting of candles. The name of each Fallen Bengal will be read aloud, followed by the ringing of our memorial bell

The Celebration of Life Memorial Service is coordinated by the Dean of Students Office and the Weigel Wellness Center.

If you are aware of a campus member who has passed away since 2020 and would like to add his or her name to the list of remembrances, please email the student resource coordinator with the relevant information.

Tell Students: Community Engagement - Voice Buffalo on Campus: April 27

Posted:

Do you want to be a part of social justice? The Civic and Community Engagement Office will host Voice Buffalo on Wednesday, April 27, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Campbell Student Union lobby.

Voice Buffalo was founded in 1996 by a diverse group of faith, labor, business, and community leaders who saw injustices happening in their community. They saw that public officials and unofficial power brokers who make key decisions weren't prioritizing regular folks. Voice Buffalo asked, Who stands up for the common citizen? When government and private sector decisions ignore the needs of the people, who will speak up for them? The answer: regular folks, acting collectively and using their voice. So, they organized, and Voice Buffalo was born.

Please email the Civic and Community Engagement Office or call (716) 878-3919 with questions or comments.
