From the Chair of the Buffalo State Senate Curriculum Committee Advanced to the Curriculum Committee The following have been received in the Buffalo State Senate Office, have been logged, and will be reviewed by the Curriculum Committee: Program Revision: B.A. Journalism Minor in Design (Ceramics, Fibers, Metals/Jewelry, Wood/Furniture) [formerly Design (Ceramics, Fiber, Furniture, Jewelry)] Course Revision: BIO 699 Capstone Experience in Biology. Prerequisite: BIO 600, instructor permission. A culminating, “portfolio” experience of the M.A. Biology program for students pursuing the non-thesis option. Offered every semester. DES 114 Workshop in Crafts. Hands-on creative studio experience in either ceramics, fibers, metals/jewelry, wood/furniture design, or sculpture. Non-art and design majors only. Offered every semester. ENT 342 Advanced Circuit Analysis. Prerequisite: ENT 300 and ENT 332. Methods of DC electrical-circuit analysis, DC transient-circuit analysis, Laplace Transforms and applications to electrical circuits and sinusoidal (AC) steady state analysis, transfer functions and networks, frequency response and Bode plots, waveform analysis, and Fourier analysis. Offered every spring. ENT 401 Stress Analysis. Prerequisite: ENT 300 or MAT 315, ENT 301. By the end of the course, students should be knowledgeable in techniques used to predict stress and strain caused by loads or other effects in  structural members and machine elements, as well as in the use of analytical, numerical, and experimental methods to that end. Offered every spring. ENT 445 Power Electronics. Prerequisite: ENT 332, ENT 341. Corequisite: ENT 342. The operation of modern, high-power electronic devices as applied to controls, electric machines, and power systems; power diodes, thyristors, BJTs, MOSFETs, and IGBTs as electronic switches; analysis of uncontrolled and controlled rectifiers, inverters, and DC-DC converters; perform laboratory experiments using electrical instrumentation and computer analysis tools. Offered every spring. FAR 362 Nineteenth-Century Art in a Global World (formerly Nineteenth-Century Art). Prerequisite: CWP 102. Survey of nineteenth-century art in Europe and Americas within social, political, economic, and cultural contexts, including revolution, nationalism, colonialism, capitalism, and industrialization and their impact upon representations of class, race, and gender. Offered every other fall. PSC 497 Capstone Internship. Prerequisite: PSC 203, 204, 399, junior or senior standing, and instructor permission. Applies skills and knowledge from PSC 203, 204, and 399 to either an intensive local internship or immersive program such as semester in the New York State legislature, SUNY Brockport’s Washington, D.C. internship program, or SUNY Global Engagement Program in New York City. Course Revision with General Education 2023 Designation: HUMANITIES MCL 100 Italian Cinema I. Masterpieces of Italian cinema 1940–1970s. Taught in English. Offered every fall. MCL 200 Italian Cinema II. Exploration of masterpieces of Italian cinema from the 1990s to the present through the lens of the social and psychological implications of the industrial and post-industrial periods. Offered every spring.

Explores developmental theories, sociocultural influences, and early intervention strategies. Emphasizes play, school readiness, and technology use. Analyzes milestones and techniques to support language and literacy acquisition. Offered every spring. EXE 612 Behavior Support Strategies for Young Children with Disabilities (formerly Managing the Behavior of Young Children with Disabilities). Prerequisite: EXE 502 or EXE 362 or equivalent. Examines research-based frameworks for supporting social-emotional development and managing behavior in young children with disabilities. Explores evidence-based strategies, functional behavioral assessment, intervention planning, and family collaboration. Emphasizes culturally responsive and developmentally appropriate practices. Offered every fall. HPR 488 Coaching and Physical Education Internship (formerly Internship). Prerequisite: HPR 126; HPR 309; Instructor Permission. Through mentored field experience, practice in the professional skills of an entry-level sports coach. Practice utilizing knowledge and skills to effectively coach individuals, groups, or teams, focusing in practical application and real-world scenarios. Offered every semester. HTR 200 Foodborne Illness Prevention and Food Safety (formerly Sanitation and Safety in Food Service). A panoramic overview of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration FDA Food Code which applies to biological, chemical, physical and other hazards that lead to foodborne illness. Students will sit for the national ServSafe® Manager certification exam supported through the National Restaurant Association Education Foundation. Offered every fall. HTR 380 Inclusive Hospitality Trainings and Certifications (formerly Advanced Training in Hospitality). Prerequisite: HTR 110. Best practices  and active participation in training and certifications imperative  for the hospitality and tourism industry to such as fire safety, NARCAN, QPR, stress management, and working with consumers with disabilities.  Active workforce skills training focused on inclusive and culturally diverse hospitality-tourism enterprises. This is a designated service-learning course. Offered every semester. HTR 455 Advanced Talent Management in Hospitality and Tourism (formerly Advanced Human Resource Management in Hospitality). Prerequisite: HTR 110. Application of advanced talent management and human resource concepts, evidence-based practices, leadership and problem-solving strategies cultivated by hospitality-tourism managers for an inclusive and competitive work environment. This is a designated writing intensive critical thinking course. Offered every semester. HTR 470 Legal Tactics for Hospitality and Tourism (formerly Legal Issues in Hospitality). Prerequisite: HTR 110. An overview and exploratory review of the impact of federal, state and municipal regulations for the hospitality and tourism industry focused on public and workforce safety, property liabilities and brand protection for all hospitality and tourism venues such as dining, bars, hotels, Airbnb, clubs, corporate, travel and entertainment venues. Offered every semester. HTR 485 Seminar and Alumni Networking in Hospitality (formerly Seminar in Hospitality). Prerequisite: HTR 110. An overview of the exciting career paths, trends and obstacles within the hospitality and tourism industry, and comprehensive career planning strategies using best practices.  Students will research and present on favored hospitality and tourism enterprises and participate in electronic networking and distinguished Hospitality Alumni networking presentations. Offered every semester. General Education 2023 Designation: SOCIAL SCIENCES PAD 101 Introduction to Public Administration and Nonprofit Management. Prerequisite: None. Overview of public and nonprofit agencies, socioeconomic and cultural impact of nonprofits, public-nonprofit partnerships, employment systems, governance in public and nonprofit sectors, ethical challenges. Offered every semester.

EXE 652 Intervention in Early Childhood Special Education. Pre-requisite: Provisional/ initial certification in early childhood special education or instructor permission. Explores evidence-based intervention strategies to support young children with disabilities across developmental domains. Emphasizes individualized instructional planning, early literacy and numeracy interventions, assistive technology, and structuring effective intervention environments. Focuses on promoting access, participation, and engagement. Offered every fall. Emphasis on a systems model of organizational analysis. Exploration of policy creation and enforcement. Facilitators and barriers to workplace efficacy. Offered fall semester. CRJ 406 Correctional Institutions and Programs. Prerequisite: CRJ 101, CRJ 204, and upper-division status or permission of instructor. A comprehensive survey of adult institutional corrections, focusing on systems, programs, services, and policies that govern operational, legal, and structural aspects.  Emphasizes research on the impacts and outcomes of correctional interventions. Offered occasionally. HTR 100 Introductory to Multicultural Food Preparation. Prerequisite: None. An overview of basic food preparation techniques in selected categories of culturally rich diverse foods with an emphasis on vegetables and fruits, plant foods, meats, poultry, proteins and meals to be discussed and prepared in lab. A correlation to the cultural background of each dish prepared will be interpreted. Offered every semester. HTR 110 Introduction to Hospitality and Tourism Management. Prerequisite: None. An all-encompassing survey of the dynamic hospitality-tourism industry and careers within hotels, resorts, events, culinary, dining, recreation, clubs, travel, tourism, food and beverage, airlines, convention, sales, casino, parks, gaming, technology, healthcare, management, entrepreneurship, cruise lines, education and training. Innovative presentations by hospitality and tourism professionals will occur throughout the semester. Offered every semester. HTR 305 Applied Culinary Arts. Prerequisite: HTR 110. Students will strengthen their basic food preparation knowledge and develop problem solving creative abilities as they apply to recipes and advanced food preparation techniques following industry standards.  The course culminates with a mystery basket group lab activity to formulate a recipe with only a specified amount of food items. Offered spring semester.
