Call for Proposals - AFP 2023: Ideas + Action = Justice - Deadline Extended

Posted:

The deadline for proposal submissions for the Buffalo State University Anne Frank Project's 15th annual social justice festival, AFP 2023, has been extended until Wednesday, June 7.

This year's theme is AFP 2023: Ideas + Action = Justice. We are actively seeking proposals from individuals representing a variety of disciplines. We encourage them to share their expertise, skills, and artistry with university students, faculty, staff, and surrounding community members and engage with diverse communities in teachable ways. The idea is for them to respond rather than react. Ideas without action require no courage, no research, and no truth. When ideas are followed up with action, positive impact becomes possible. The Anne Frank Project’s annual festival is the ideal platform for teaching people how to respond versus react to their world. The only way to make positive personal and social change: justice.

AFP invites presentations, workshops, and performances reflecting on this year's theme. In keeping with the kinesthetic and experiential pillars of AFP, we ask that all session proposals be crafted as one-third theory and two-thirds practice. Encourage your colleagues, friends, and family to share their gifts at Buffalo State University's campuswide signature event. Submit your proposal today!

For regular updates on the 15th annual Social Justice Festival, please visit the AFP website and follow us on Instagram.

Student Accessibility Services: New Student Management System

Posted:

Student Accessibility Services (SAS), located within Academic Commons, Butler Library 160, will implement a new student management system, Accommodate by Symplicity, in fall 2023 for all faculty and students. The SAS website will be updated over the summer with information on how to use and interact with this new interface. The system will be piloted with select faculty members and students over the summer to help us work out any existing issues in the process.

  • Accommodate will be used to distribute all notices of accommodation that students previously distributed as PDF attachments.
  • Faculty members will sign to acknowledge receipt of notice of accommodation.
  • Faculty members can view the names of all students in their courses who have requested accommodations in the course(s) they are teaching, in one location.

We are developing the “testing” module of this product and hope to implement this as soon as we are ready.

For further information or with questions, please email SAS.

Brightspace Basics: Merged and Cross-Listed Rosters in Brightspace

Posted:

Brightspace has a function in which rosters from multiple sections can be merged into one course site. If you find yourself posting the same materials to different course sections of the same course during a semester, you can request that your course sections be combined into a single Brightspace course site. (Courses that are cross-listed in Banner will be automatically merged in the system. These cross-listed courses are coordinated between the department and the Registrar's Office. You do not need to request a merger.)

The IT Knowledge Base article Merged and Cross-Listed Rosters in Brightspace gives an overview of the features and steps to take for merged courses and also how to verify that course rosters have been merged.

For cross-listed courses and merged courses, the lowest CRN is the parent course. The parent course is the course you should develop content for and make active when ready. While waiting for the merger, you can develop immediately in the lowest CRN course.
