2023 SEFA Campaign: 'Why We Give' Segment

Posted:

“Buffalo State has so many amazing community partners who provide community-engaged learning, civic experiences, internships, and direct services to our students. Donating to these organizations through the SEFA/United Way Campaign is an important way to honor the ways these organizations support our students’ educational experiences. I encourage you to support an organization that collaborates with your department or supports our students, and give in honor of that partnership!”
—Laura Hill Rao

We warmly invite you to share your reasons for giving, and we'll feature them in the Daily. Please send your thoughts to campaign co-chairs Wendy Paterson, dean of the School of Education, or Maria C. Garrity, senior systems programmer in Information Technology. Let's keep the momentum going! To donate, please go to the e-pledge system and click "Forgot user ID or password" to begin the process, even if you are rolling over your pledge from last year.

Thank you.

2023 SEFA Campaign: 'Why We Give' Segment

Posted:

"I have always found that the ease of giving to the SEFA/United Way Campaign allows me to honor my father, Donald W. Paterson, who was not a wealthy man, but whose legacy of leadership lives on in the Niagara Frontier Boy Scouts of America. Giving to them through the United Way is my way to thank my Dad for all he and other men like him do for young men and women who benefit from mentors like him. I encourage you to give to a United Way agency to provide a living tribute to someone you love."

Beyond Boundaries: 'Attica' - Today

Posted:

The Beyond Boundaries Film and Discussion Series is pleased to present the documentary film Attica (2021) today, November 9, at 7:00 p.m. in the Burchfield Penney Art Center Tower Auditorium. The screening is free and open to the public. A reception will be held before the film at 5:30 p.m in memory of SUNY vice chancellor and UB vice provost and law professor Teresa Miller.

During the summer of 1971, tensions between inmates and guards at the Attica Correctional Facility are at an all-time high. On the morning of September 9, it all comes to a head as Attica becomes the stage for one of the largest U.S. prison riots ever. Filmmaker Stanley Nelson has a distinguished career telling stories of Black struggle against white supremacy. The filmmakers conduct dozens of new interviews and make powerful use of surveillance footage to understand the legacy of resistance and its violent backlash.

Watch the trailer.

Beyond Boundaries is sponsored by the Equity and Campus Diversity Office, the Communication Department, and the Burchfield Penney Art Center. The series is curated by Ruth Goldman and Meg Knowles, associate professors of media production in the Communication Department.
