Call for Volunteers: Part-Time Job and Internship Fair - August 28

The Career and Professional Education (CAPE) Center will host its annual Part-Time-Job and Internship Fair on Thursday, August 28, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Plaza (rain location: Campbell Student Union Social Hall).   

We need volunteers to help make the event successful. If you are interested in volunteering, please sign up online by Friday, August 15.

We have a variety of tasks for volunteers, including assisting with setup, sharing information about CAPE with students, playing games with students, and handing out snacks to employers and students. The Cold Stone ice cream truck will also be at the event again this year.

In Memoriam: James M. "Jim" Shea

The Buffalo State University community is saddened by the death of James M. “Jim” Shea, associate professor emeritus of engineering technology, who died July 23, 2025. Professor Shea joined the campus in 1967 and retired in 2020. He is survived by his partner, Sherry Salzman; and three children. A private memorial service will be held for friends and family. Those who wish to attend may leave a message of condolence with contact information on the memorial page of the funeral home website. More information is available online.

Governor Hochul Directs Flags to Half-Staff

Governor Kathy Hochul is directing that flags on State buildings be immediately lowered to half-staff and remain at half-staff until further notice in honor of those who lost their lives in a shooting Monday evening in Manhattan.

The campus community is invited to attend the New York State Employee Assistance Program’s monthly webinar, “20 Different Fruits and Vegetables in a Week: Try it!,” on Monday, August 4, from noon to 12:30 p.m.

Join us for the August WellNYS Weekly Challenges, where we'll get inspired to increase produce in our breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks without drastically altering our routines. This webinar will guide you through simple, practical strategies to incorporate 20 or more different fruits and vegetables into your weekly diet, fostering a healthier and more vibrant lifestyle. Linda Carignan-Everts, statewide wellness coordinator, will present this free 30-minute webinar.

Register for August 4 webinar. You will receive a confirmation email with instructions on how to join the session. If you are unable to attend live, this webinar will be recorded and put on the WellNYS Everyday website.

Milligan's Food Pantry Hours and Moving

Milligan's Food Pantry will be moving. To accommodate the move, the pantry’s hours have been adjusted:

Thursday, July 31: Noon to 4:00 p.m.

Friday, August 1–Monday, August 11: Closed 

Tuesday, August 12: re-opens with normal summer hours (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, noon to 4:00 p.m.)

Emergency food is available at the University Police Department, but if a student is struggling, they can contact the Student Care and Support Office at relieffund@buffalostate.edu for information about additional resources.  

The most up-to-date information is available on the Instagram account: bsu_Milligansfoodpantry.

Update Address in HR Self-Service for W-2 Delivery

New York State Payroll Online (NYSPO) is preparing for paper and electronic delivery of 2024 Form W-2 Statements. To ensure the forms can be delivered to employees timely and according to the preferred method of delivery, please login to the HR Self-Service portal. Click the icon for SUNY HR Self-Service to ensure your current address is on file and make any updates, if needed.

To check or change the delivery method of paper or electronic form, please login to NYSPO to manage your preferences. To do this, login to the HR Self-Service portal and click the icon for NYS Payroll Online. Consent must be made electronically in order to receive the forms electronically. Paper forms will be mailed to the address on file if consent is not given.

Electronic forms can only be sent to employees who are active on state payroll. Employees who are no longer active at the time of distribution will receive a paper form.

Wednesday, January 8, 2025, is the deadline to update your mailing address and W-2 delivery method in HR Self-Service.
