The 2013 edition was the first that published writers outside of the Buffalo State community and to be printed by a professional publisher.

ELJ is published through the cooperation of the Writing Major and the School of Arts and Sciences.

Submissions for the next issue, the Karma Edition are now open. Students enrolling in Chinquee's ENG 327 course in Fall 2025 will be part of the process of reading and editing submissions, layout, publication, promotion, and website design.

APA & Other Library Tutorials Moving to Brightspace, Niche Academy Subscription Ending

Posted:

E. H. Butler Library is ending its subscription to the tutorial software Niche Academy at the end of May. Niche Academy hosted tutorials on APA citation and formatting, peer-review, search strategies, and other library research concepts. The decision was made due to several factors, including the platforms’ inability to interact with other campus software. As an alternative, these tutorials are now available as Brightspace library research modules that can be embedded into your course shells or through badging. Video content from the tutorials is available on the library tutorials page and the citation help site. Current Brightspace library research modules are available for the following topics:

  • APA Citations & Formatting
  • MS Word & APA Formatting
  • Using Butler Library’s ALL-Search
  • Scholarly vs Popular Resources
  • What is a Literature Review

Please visit our Brightspace library research modules website for more information. Questions can be directed to Chris Hulsman, electronic & educational resources librarian.

Steam Service Shutdown to Most Campus Buildings: June 1–20

Posted:

As part of the ongoing heating plant upgrade project and to help facilitate campus-wide steam repairs, steam service to most campus buildings will be shut down from noon on Sunday, June 1, until roughly noon on Friday, June 20. Steam service to the LoRusso Alumni and Visitor Center, Student Apartment Complex, and Burchfield Penney Art Center will be unaffected.

During this time, affected buildings will have no heat, no steam for cooking or dish washing, and no hot water, including for showering in the Sports Arena, Houston Gymnasium, and residence halls. Staff members affected by the interruption have been notified and necessary mitigation plans have been put into place.

In buildings with cooling, members of the campus community may experience lower than usual building temperatures because systems will not be able to reheat the cooling air, and occupants are asked to dress accordingly. Employees who would like to seek an alternative work location should consult with their supervisors first, and supervisors should contact Human Resource Management. Employees are asked to report any sightings of dripping condensate from ceilings to Facilities at (716) 878-6111. Questions about this project may be addressed to facilities@buffalostate.edu. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we make these necessary repairs to the steam service.
