iSTEAM Inclusive STEM Education Mini Symposium

Posted:

Save the Date: May 15, 2025, from 11:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m.

Online/Zoom: https://www.tinyurl/isteam25

The i-STEAM project is a 4-module online faculty development program, which was awarded the SUNY Innovative Instruction Technology Grant (IITG). The second year's grant support trained over 30 STEM instructors from across SUNY to collaboratively explore how to make STEM education more inclusive by reviewing, rethinking, and diversifying curricular design and delivery, drawing on interdisciplinary perspectives from the humanities, arts, and knowledge traditions across cultures. We also explore AI tools and develop open educational resources (OER) materials to help leverage project goals. At this Spring wrap-up event, the participants will share their experiences and the resources they have developed.

Final Exams at Student Accessibility Services

Posted:

CEP week is a busy week at Student Accessibility Services. We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to a successful end to the semester.

Please read closely and note the guidelines for administration of tests at Student Accessibility Services during CEP week, May 12-15, 2025:

  • SAS Testing Center will be open 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Mon-Thu of that week.
  • Tests will be administered to start at times specified for CEP week schedule – 7:40 a.m., 9:40 a.m., 11:40 a.m., 1:40 p.m., 3:40 p.m.
  • Faculty are asked to please upload their finals to the Accommodate Portal at least 24 hours (one day) prior to the scheduled test date/time.
  • Faculty should answer all questions in a form where SAS staff clearly understand the parameters of the test.
  • The last day for students to make a seat reservation at the testing center through Accommodate is 5/8/2025, 4:00 p.m. (after this date students will have to meet with us to schedule tests in person).
  • The last time slot to schedule for students with 2.0X (double) accommodated time will be 1:40 p.m.
  • Students with three or more tests are required to work with at least one of their faculty to schedule their test for a different day.
  • If the tests are shorter than the 110 minutes allowed, please specify this in the notes section of the form so SAS staff can manually adjust the accommodated test time for the student.
  • Faculty will receive an email when a student makes a seat reservation. Please check for accuracy of the scheduled date and time selected by the student. SAS staff will assume that students have approval from their faculty to take the test at the time specified in the correspondence.
  • Students with back-to-back tests may need to select a time that differs from the scheduled time, one that is closest to the originally scheduled time.
  • Please feel free to upload your tests if you know that you have a student with accommodations in your course at any time before the test upload deadline.
  • All completed tests will be scanned and uploaded in Accommodate, unless otherwise stated.

Please note: SAS will not be administering at-home Brightspace tests. However, if your Brightspace exam is being administered under faculty supervision in the classroom, please inform SAS ASAP (exams@buffalostate.edu).

Please follow the directions to extend the time in Brightspace Quizzes

Summer Internship Funding/Host an Intern

Posted:

Career and Professional Education (CAPE) is again facilitating the SUNY Incremental Funding for Internships for summer 2025. Student applications are due by Friday May 9.

Each student is eligible to receive up to $950. This funding can be used for general living expenses, professional clothing, and transportation, as well as costs associated with housing or rent. This initiative is a testament to SUNY’s commitment to enhancing the educational experience of our students by providing them with real-world, hands-on opportunities that align with their academic and career goals.

Inform Students
If you know of any students who are interested in or are pursuing an internship for summer 2025, please inform them of this opportunity. Students can apply for this funding by completing an online application in Bengal Connect. Applications must be submitted by May 9.

Looking to Host an Intern?
If your office would like to host an intern for summer 2025, please complete this online form ASAP and no later than Friday, May 9. This is a great opportunity to have an undergraduate student work on a special project or initiative. Many of our students do not have access to transportation, so on-campus experiences will ensure that more students have access to this opportunity. Please contact Maureen Huber, associate director of CAPE, with questions.

We are asking for your assistance to support this initiative.

CAPE is available to help students create their résumés, cover letters, and any other professional documents needed to apply for an internship.

Please contact Denise Harris, director of CAPE, with questions.

Air-Conditioning Notice

Posted:

Each spring, campus personnel must decide when to begin cooling campus buildings. Unlike heating systems, air-conditioning cannot be turned on and off on a daily or weekly basis. The initiation of campus cooling systems, which is planned to begin the week of May 19, is a temperature-dependent activity performed once nighttime low temperatures are consistently predicted to be 60 degrees or higher.

Additionally, the New York State Department of Health requires that all cooling systems be inspected by an accredited external inspector prior to activation in order to comply with Legionella testing requirement. In compliance with New York energy guidelines, we strive to keep indoor temperatures no higher than 78 degrees in air-conditioned spaces. Your patience is appreciated as we await warmer overnight forecasts and carry out the important inspection phase. Questions about air-conditioning can be directed to Facilities Operations at (716) 878-6111.
