Cultural Café: Today at Noon in Butler Library

Posted:

Join us today, Thursday, March 13, at noon for the Cultural Café, a monthly event that brings together members of the Buffalo State University community over conversation, culture, and coffee and an Indian dish. The program will begin at 12:15 p.m. on the first floor of E. H. Butler Library. We are pleased to host local graphic designer, illustrator, and artist Becky Patterson. She will give a watercolor class during the Cultural Café in honor of Holi, a popular Hindu festival celebrating the end of winter in colorful ways. Patterson recently collaborated with Explore & More Children’s Museum on a mural project. This is a great opportunity share culture through art. This event is sponsored by the Butler Library and Maurene Callahan Bouras Center for Global Engagement.

'Buffalo State Talks' Series: Spring 2025

Posted:

The Alumni Engagement Office partners with the Honors Program each semester to present "Buffalo State Talks," a lecture series featuring faculty, staff, and alumni from Buffalo State University. Each lecture is different, highlighting popular discussions and topics within the world today.

This semester, Dr. Alex Ford, ’12, will be joining us on Tuesday, April 8, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. in the LoRusso Alumni and Visitor Center to present "The Path of Purpose: How Nutrition Fueled My Medical Career."

Ford is a native of Albany, New York, and has volunteered with 4th Family Inc. for more than 10 years. He attended Christian Brothers Academy and then enrolled at Buffalo State University, where he graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science in dietetics. After graduating, he returned to Albany, interested in wellness and preventive medicine. He worked as a registered dietitian while completing his remaining coursework to attend medical school and become a physician. While working and studying, Ford volunteered as a nutrition educator at 4th Family.

This lecture series is free to attend for all students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Refreshments will be served. For more information and to register for the event, please click here.

This spring lecture series is brought to you by the Alumni Engagement Office, Honors Program and School of the Professions.

Tell Students: Arthur O. Eve Week of Service and Buffalo State Alternative Spring Break 2025

Posted:

Arthur O. Eve Week of Service and Buffalo State Alternative Spring Break 2025 are collaborating to bring you a great service project that will introduce and support a community partner that addresses job and education access needs in our community. We will be working with SUNY Attain Lab.

The nontraditional ASB four-day will NOT have an overnight component. All participants will return to their respective homes at the end of each volunteer day. Those who live in the Buffalo State residence halls will need to make proper accommodations to secure their stay over the spring break week at the participant’s cost. The project requires participants to commit to at least three of the four days. Please clearly mark your commitments in the registration form to facilitate accommodations and transportation.

All are welcome to sign up (undergrad, grad, part-time, full-time, faculty, staff, and Buffalo State friends). Participating in all four days will award registrants 20 hours of civic engagement credit. It is a great opportunity for participants to be introduced to the SUNY Attain Lab, support impactful initiatives in our community, and learn about new ways to be civically engaged. The project includes an orientation meeting on Thursday,  March 20, from 12:15 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. in South Wing 100, reflection sessions over lunch, and four service days.

Tentative Schedule:

Monday, March 24, 2024, 9:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. (lunch break included)

Tuesday, March 25, 2024, 9:30 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. (lunch break included)

Wednesday, March 26, 20204 - 9:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. (lunch break included)

Thursday, March 27, 2025, 9:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. (lunch break included)

Space is limited. Applications are being accepted now. Once full, we will initiate a waiting list. There are three openings for three ASB Student Leader positions. Inquire for more information.

Transportation to the volunteer site will be provided with a shuttle van. Please mark on your registration form if you will need to use the shuttle.

Contact Lisa Kragbé at the CCE for questions, call (716) 878-3919, or email at cce@buffalostate.edu. Please complete the registration form to apply.
