Zhang Jie, professor of sociology and director of the Center for China Studies, published his article "Confucianism and Youth Suicide in Rural China," coauthored with Eric Yang Liu, in the Review of Religious Research, the official journal of the Religious Research Association 54 (1): 93-111.

Rachel Link, Institutional Advancement

Rachel Link, data research analyst with Institutional Advancement, presented the session "Using Game Theory in Analytics" at the 25th annual international conference of the Association of Professional Researchers (APRA), held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, August 1–4. The conference attracted more than 940 research professionals from across the United States as well as 10 countries. Link also served on the "Building Relationships with IT" panel at the APRA Data Analytics Symposium, also held in Minneapolis August 1–2, and served on the faculty of the symposium as well. Link serves on the APRA-UNY executive board and coauthors a quarterly column on advancement and research topics. She joined the advancement services staff in January 2008.

Zhang Jie, professor of sociology and director of the Center for China Studies, published his article “Mental Disorder and Suicide among Youths in Rural China: A Case Control Study Based on Consecutive Samples from Hunan, Liaoning and Shandong Provinces” in the Chinese Journal of Epidemiology 33: 588–592. The paper’s coauthors are Ziyao Li, Shuiyuan Xiao, Liang Zhou, Cun Xian Jia, and Guowei Pan.

Kimberly Blessing, associate professor and chair of the Philosophy and Humanities Department, presented "Atheism and Meaningfulness in Life” at the Western New York-Western Pennsylvania regional meeting of the American Catholic Philosophical Association, held at Saint John Fisher College in Rochester, New York, on April 21.

Her article “Mal-Placed Regret” appears in "Inception" and Philosophy, edited by David Kyle Johnson (Wiley-Blackwell, 2011).

Two papers by Julian Cole, assistant professor of philosophy and humanities, have been accepted for publication by international peer-reviewed journals. The first, "Towards an Institutional Account of the Objectivity, Necessity, and Atemporality of Mathematics," is forthcoming in Philosophia Mathematica. The second, "An Abstract Status Function Account of Corporations," will be published in Philosophy of the Social Sciences.

An article by Bridget Chesterton, assistant professor of history and social studies education, titled "Composing Gender and Class: Paraguayan Letter Writers during the Chaco War: 1932–1935," has been accepted for publication by the Journal of Women's History. The article will appear in volume 26 of the journal.

Jane Cushman, Mathematics

Jane Cushman, assistant professor of mathematics, was selected as a member of Cohort IV and attended the 2012 PTMT Summer Institute in Raleigh, North Carolina, May 20–23. The institute brought together colleagues to share knowledge about using integrated approaches to preparing prospective teachers to teach data analysis, probability, and geometry with technology tools.
