Guo, assistant professor, Computer Information Systems, presented a research paper at the Technological Learning & Thinking 2010 international conference, June 17-19, at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Guo's research paper, “Web Design in Service-Learning,” focused on the design and development of Web sites by educational technology graduate students as service-learning projects for local community organizations.

Jill M. Gradwell, assistant professor, History and Social Studies Education, served as coeditor with S.G. Grant, dean of the School of Education at Binghamton University, for the new book Teaching History with Big Ideas: Cases of Ambitious Teachers, published this summer by Rowman & Littlefield. Gradwell was also an invited guest of the ninth annual R. Freeman Butts Institute on Civic Learning in Teacher Education in Indianapolis, May 21–25.

John Cabra, assistant professor, Creative Studies, presented a five-day elective course in Spanish for the Universidad de La Sabana’s International School of Economic and Administrative Sciences, in Bogotá, Colombia, in June. In attendance were entrepreneurs, students, and faculty. The course was titled “Creativity and Innovation Uncovered: Skills and Tools to Facilitate Creative Problem Solving.”

Susan McMillen, associate professor, and Jodelle Magner, assistant professor, Mathematics, gave two presentations at the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) 2007 Annual Meeting and Exposition in Atlanta, Georgia, March 21–24: “Making Teaching Children Mathematics Come Alive in Your Classroom,” which addresses the format and types of articles that should be written for the Investigations column in the NCTM journal Teaching Children Mathematics, and “Content Courses for Teachers: Impacting Mathematical Knowledge for Teaching,” which addresses data from in-service teachers enrolled in graduate mathematics courses during the summer and fall 2006 semesters.
