Lisa Hunter, associate professor, Music, presented “Voices from Public School–University Partnerships: Beginning, Surviving, and Thriving” at the 2010 Biennial Music Educators National Conference in Anaheim, California, March 25–27. The panel presentation included Buffalo State student teachers in music education, faculty from the Eastman School of Music, and a music educator from Rochester, New York.
A paper by Jill M. Gradwell, assistant professor, History and Social Studies Education, titled “Using Sources to Teach History for the Common Good: A Case of One Teacher’s Purpose,” has been published in theJournal of Social Studies Research 34 (1): 59–76.
Sister Charlene Fontana, SSJ, assistant to the director of student life, was named a recipient of New York State Senator Antoine Thompson’s Women’s History Month Award. Ten women from Thompson’s district were honored for their contributions to the areas of community service, youth and senior citizens advocacy, education, leadership, health, and faith-based leadership. The awards were presented on March 21 during a ceremony at the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society.
Ramona R. Santa Maria, assistant professor, Computer Information Systems, was nominated and approved as a member of the board of directors of the Epilepsy Association of Western New York.
Evelyn (Santiago) Rosario, senior academic adviser, Educational Opportunity Program, and director of the study tour to Puerto Rico, presented “Study Tour to Puerto Rico, A Non-Traditional Way of Learning: 1993–2009 (An Ongoing Study)” at the first SUNY Cortland Student Conference on Diversity, Equity, and Social Justice: “Imagining Communities Without Walls,” held in Cortland, New York, on March 27. Cassandra S. Andrusz and Jazzmyn J. Thannie, two Buffalo State seniors, also presented their perspectives and experiences as former participants of the study tour program. The study tour to Puerto Rico is a study-abroad program worth 6 credits, co-sponsored by International and Exchange Programs and Educational Opportunity Program.
Gerard Puccio, chair and professor, Creative Studies, has been invited to deliver the keynote speech at the third international conference on Creativity and Innovation Management in Paris, France, July 1 and 2. The conference is organized by the editors of the European journal Creativity and Innovation Managementand will be hosted by the University of Paris. Puccio also has been invited to deliver a keynote and workshop prior to the conference, as part of the annual meeting of the French Creativity Congress.
Lorna Perez, assistant professor, English, presented her paper “Nations in Exile: Feminism, Dislocation, and the Death of the Patriarch in Rosario Ferré’s The House on the Lagoon” at the 41st annual convention of the Northeast Modern Language Association, held in Montreal, Quebec, April 8–11.
Ken Orosz, assistant professor, History and Social Studies Education, gave the keynote address at the 2010 Phi Alpha Theta Western Pennsylvania Regional Conference, held at Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania, on April 10. His talk was titled “Bibles, Bogart, and Bravado: A Cameroon Connection to C. S. Forester’s African Queen?” Orosz recently ended a 10-year stint as editor of the French Colonial Historical Society’s thrice-yearly newsletter.
Sharon F. Cramer, SUNY Distinguished Service Professor, Exceptional Education, coauthored a chapter with Melissa Haab titled “Enterprise Resource Planning Systems in Higher Education.” The chapter will appear inTechnology Integration in Higher Education: Social and Organizational Aspects (Daniel W. Surry, Tres Stefurak, and Robert Gray, eds.; IGI Global, August 2010).
