Next Tuesday, March 1, at 12:15 p.m. in Bulger Communication Center North 2C, students can find out how to earn six to ten undergraduate or graduate credits studying French in Quebec this summer. Screening of Slumdog Millionaire

You are cordially invited to attend a free showing of Slumdog Millionaire, Friday, February 25, at 7:00 p.m. in Bulger Communication Center South. This film is brought to you through the Buffalo State Arts and Diversity Cinema Club. Ms. Yousra Ido from Syria will introduce Mr. Shouvik Ray, senior executive at HSBC, who will present the film. The screening will be followed by a question and answer session. The Equity and Campus Diversity Office is a contributing sponsor. Refreshments will be provided by the Collegiate Village student apartments.

New Student Apartment Complex Faculty/Staff Tours

Buffalo State will open the doors to a new apartment complex for students in fall 2011. The fully furnished, 507-bed complex features four individual bedrooms, two bathrooms, a full kithcen, common living area, WiFi, and air conditioning within each apartment.

If you or members of your department are interested in touring the new complex, simply contact Imon Hossain from the Residence Life Office. Tours are available Monday or Thursday afternoons between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.

In celebration of Black History Month, the African and African American Studies Interdisciplinary Unit (School of Natural and Social Sciences) presents a lecture by professor Joseph Chukwudi Okeibunor (University of Nigeria, Nsukka), 2010-2011 Research Fellow, Takemi Program in International Health, Harvard School of Public Health. Professor Okeibunor will talk about "Community-Directed Intervention: Improving Access to Health in Areas with Weak Health Systems in Africa," Wednesday, February 23, 7:00-8:00 p.m., in Ketchum Hall 313. In this workshop, we will discuss ways to manage the paper load and to provide more effective feedback to students on their writing. ACM 590 (1 credit): The Subprime Mortgage Crisis and Markov Chain Models in Credit Risk Management, will be offered Mondays (February 28 through April 4), 6:30–9:10 p.m. in Classroom Building C104 during the spring 2011 semester. The instructor is Matthew Nagowski, vice president of credit risk management at M&T Bank.

This is a course in the master of science in professional applied and computational mathematics program. This course is open to any student. Call the Mathematics Department for further information.

Prerequisites: Linear Algebra, Linear Regression, Introduction to Programming

Suggested coursework: Intermediate Microeconomics, Intermediate Macroeconomics
