The Anne Frank Project 2011: Call for Proposals

The Anne Frank Project announces a call for proposals for its 2011 conference, September 14-16. The AFP proposal review committee is seeking proposals from students, faculty, staff and community members that help to explore this year's conference theme, "Our Shared Humanity: Looking Inward." The deadline for submissions is April 8, 2011.

The Anne Frank Project is an annual college-wide diversity conference where the words and wisdom of Anne Frank are used as a springboard for an intense examination of intolerance, bias, and genocide. For more information and past conferences, visit our website.

28th Annual International Cultural Fiesta: April 9

The campus community is invited to attend the 28th annual International Cultural Fiesta, Saturday, April 9, starting at 6:00 p.m. in Rockwell Hall Auditorium. A reception will follow in the Student Union Social Hall.

Special emphasis will be placed on Japan during the evening.

Student tickets are $3 for the performance and $6 for the performance and reception.

General admission tickets are $5 for the performance and $8 for the performance and the reception.

Tickets are available at the Rockwell Hall and Student Union Box Offices.

Workshops to Success-Study Skills: Testwiseness

Study Skills: Testwiseness is the next session in the Workshops to Success series sponsored by the Academic Skills Center of University College and offered free to Buffalo State students. Instructor-tutor Lauren Copeland will show students that how they prepare for their exams is as important as what they know about the content of the course. Her tips on test-taking preparation will help all students develop confidence when going into a quiz or exam.

Note to Buffalo State instructors: Please encourage your students to attend, perhaps by giving them extra credit for participating. Students can sign an attendance sheet which we will forward to you. If you have any questions, call the ASC at 878-4041.

fitness. Leave your office at 1:00 p.m. and return by 2:00 p.m. refreshed and rejuvenated! Led by Ottilie Woodruff, the walking group will meet from 1:15 to 1:45 p.m. in the Ice Hockey Rink.

Save The Date: Take Back The Night 2011

Take Back The Night 2011, an event to empower students in taking a stand against sexual violence, will be held Wednesday, April 13, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in Rockwell Hall.

This event brings in hundreds of students, faculty, and staff every year showing support for this important issue. Take Back The Night performances include music, poetry, survivor stories, dance, and professional keynotes.

Networking in Higher Education: Building Bridges for a Better Tomorrow

The Networking In Higher Education: Building Bridges for a Better Tomorrow conference will be held Friday, June 3, at the Holiday Inn on Niagara Falls Boulevard. This one-day conference will feature morning and afternoon workshop sessions including a luncheon keynote speaker (TBA).

This year's theme is "Core Competencies for Success: Tapping Our Potential."

A call for proposals is forthcoming. We invite those interested in presenting to submit a synopsis involving research, special projects, best practices, etc., as they pertain to noted categories.

The event is sponsored by the Association of Faculty and Staff of African Descent at Buffalo State College, UB's Minority Faculty and Staff Association, and Niagara University's Office of Multicultural and International Student Affairs.
