Campbell Student Union Rehab Design Presentation: Updated Time

Posted:

The public display of the Campbell Student Union third floor and main lobby rehabilitation schematic design will be held Thursday, May 5, between noon and 5:00 p.m. (instead of the originally planned 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. time slot). This change was requested in order to reach some of the Buffalo State community that arrive for the evening sessions as well as those on campus throughout the day.

The display will be presented by representatives of BHNT Architects. The designers will be there to answer and document questions or comments from the Buffalo State campus community. The Student Life Office will also be offering the opportunity to complete a related electronic survey at the presentation site.

The project team is looking forward to sharing the exciting design with the campus community. This project will enhance and improve the infrastructure, appearance, and usefulness of the Student Union for years to come. If further information is needed, please e-mail such requests to bonfanmv@buffalostate.edu.

Art'scool Educators' Night Out: May 5 at the Albright-Knox

Posted:

An inspirational talk by Bill Strickland, president and CEO of Manchester Bidwell Corporation, nationally recognized author of Make the Impossible Possible, and MacArthur Fellowship “genius” award recipient, will be held Thursday, May 5, from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery.

Inspired by his high school art teacher, Strickland created the Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild, an after-school program focused on the arts, while still a college student at the University of Pittsburgh. In 1971, Strickland assumed leadership of Pittsburgh’s Bidwell Training Center, which helps young people and adults develop skills designed to make them competitive applicants in their local job market. Manchester Bidwell Corporation (the parent company of the Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild and the Bidwell Training Center) has become a national model for education, culture, and hope.

Don’t miss a welcome from Alphonso O’Neil-White, president and CEO of BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York, and Louis Grachos, director of the Albright-Knox Art Gallery.

The gallery and BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York will also announce a special contest with grants to support arts programs in schools. After the talk and announcement, enjoy a complimentary reception to celebrate the continuing success of the Art’scool K–12 school tours program.

Admission and parking for this special event are free, but space is limited! R.S.V.P. to Lindsay Kranz at (716) 270-8276.

Studio Create - The Camp That Kids Design: June 27-July 29

Posted:

In distinguishing himself from other artists, Charles Burchfield wrote about finding his own way as a painter, "Not caring…about tradition, or anyone's opinion." Keeping with his creative spirit, the Burchfield Penney Art Center offers a five-week summer program for children ages 6-12 that is far from your traditional summer camp. Studio Create returns this summer with all the best of last year's camp–and more of it! So what's so special about Studio Create that has kids saying they'd rather come to BPAC's program this summer than any other camp? Simply put: freedom. With this "freedom summer," children will once again design their own camp, giving them the ultimate creative experience.

For more information and tuition fees, e-mail kellymc@buffalostate.edu, call ext. 3216,  or download the registration info at http://www.burchfieldpenney.org/pdf/Spring_and_Summer_2011_Camps_Registration_Packet.pdf
