Banner Override Training

Posted:

There will be two Banner override open demo sessions held in E. H. Butler Library 316: one on Wednesday, October 26, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. and another on Tuesday, November 1, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Both sessions are open to all departments and do not require registration. Rada Montroy, information support analyst, will facilitate. All departments that have not had training or any faculty member who would like a refresher course is strongly encouraged to attend one of the sessions to be prepared for registration.

All department chairs received a list of courses along with the prerequisites and corequisites. These lists were then reviewed by departments for accuracy and corrected if needed. The Registrar's Office used these updated lists to make changes to the courses in Banner as needed. Banner will enforce prerequisites and corequisites for all semesters including January term 2012 and spring 2012. Updating text in SSATEXT is important, but this does not enforce prerequisites or corequisites.

Banner is now programmed to do this directly from the catalog level. The master schedule report now also has two additional columns to show prerequisites and corequisites (if applicable) on each section. You can reference how to access and use the master schedule report at www.buffalostate.edu/banner/documents/MasterScheduleReport.pdf.

Faculty members should check with their departments so that they know which prerequisites and corequisites are on the section they are teaching in addition to any restriction(s). It is important to understand how the section is set up to know which override(s) you may need to grant to students.

Seeking Faculty Experts

Posted:

College Relations is getting more requests from the media for experts who can provide background, context, or insight on events or topics in the news. For example, recent inquiries have been related to early childhood education, the Occupy Wall Street movement, the Erie County executive race, and events in the Middle East.

If you are interested in sharing your research and expertise with journalists, please send the necessary information to Mary A. Durlak, college relations senior writer, for inclusion in the Experts Database. We use this database to find experts in response to inquiries from various sources.

Include your name, terminal degree, title, department, e-mail address, campus phone number, and a phone number where you can be reached when you are not on campus. If you prefer not to publish your home or cell phone number online, please provide the number but clearly label it “private.”

Please express your expertise in broad terms and simple language so that we don’t miss an opportunity to contact you. Review the current Experts Database listings for examples, and please let us know if you have a current listing that needs revision or if you have any other questions. Thank you!

Women’s Volleyball to Host Dig Pink vs. Pitt-Bradford on October 26

Posted:

The Buffalo State women's volleyball team will host Pitt-Bradford on Wednesday, October 26, at 7:00 p.m. in the Sports Arena in a "Dig Pink" match to support the battle against breast cancer.

Dig Pink is a national breast cancer awareness rally that is taking place throughout the month of October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Colleges across the country are hosting Dig Pink matches to help educate people and raise funds to help the fight against breast cancer.

Fans will have the opportunity to purchase pink ribbons and bracelets at the match, which will also feature promotional contests and giveaways throughout the night. Fans will also have the chance to participate in a 50/50 raffle and pledge donations on a per-dig or flat-rate basis. Buffalo State also invites any breast cancer survivors or family members who have lost a loved one to breast cancer to be recognized at the match. To R.S.V.P. to be recognized or to arrange a donation, please contact Renee Carlineo, ext. 5561.

All funds raised will go to support breast cancer education programs and research efforts. These contributions will assist the Side-Out Foundation in its ongoing mission to raise money and awareness about breast cancer.

The Side-Out Foundation has raised thousands of dollars for breast cancer research nationally through volleyball tournaments, clinics, and rallies. Funds are currently devoted to targeted therapies and molecular profiling, which is where there is a hotbed of research activity. The organization's name underscores its purpose—“side-out” in volleyball occurs when one team wins a point while its opponent is serving, thereby regaining serve or control of play. Likewise, in the war against breast cancer, the Side-Out Foundation will support health-care professionals in their pursuit of practical solutions for women and men with this dreadful disease, thus enabling those affected to regain control of their lives and live them to the fullest.

For more information, visit the Side-Out Foundation's website.
