Traditional Storytelling Presentation Today

Please join the Native American Student Organization (NASO), the English Department, and the School of Arts and Humanities for a presentation on traditional storytelling as part of the 18th annual Native American Heritage Month Celebration. Storytellers Joyce Pembleton (Cayuga) and Ronnie Reitter (Seneca) will share their thoughts on oral tradition, the value of stories, and the art of storytelling. The event will take place today, March 18, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in Ketchum Hall 328. The event is free and open to the public. NASO is a United Students Government (USG) recognized student group and this is a USG sponsored event.

Leadership Lecture Series: Donald K. Boswell

The Leadership Lecture Series continues this week with Donald K. Boswell, President and CEO of the Western New York Public Broadcasting Association (WNED-TV/AM/FM). Boswell, a public broadcasting veteran of nearly 35 years, will speak this Thursday, March 20, 4:30–5:30 p.m. in E.H. Butler Library 210. Prior to joining WNED in January of 1998, Boswell held positions with North Texas Public Broadcasting Inc. in Dallas, KCTS in Seattle, and WVIA-TV/FM in Pittston, Pennsylvania. The Leadership Lecture Series is free and open to the public.

Women's History Month Speakers: Meg Knowles and Dorothea Braemer

The Women's Studies Interdisciplinary Unit presents "Pretty Words Like Blades: Buffalo Women in the Arts," a three-part series celebrating Women’s History Month. Meg Knowles, assistant professor of communication, and Dorothea Braemer, executive director of Squeaky Wheel, Buffalo's Media Center, will speak and show examples of their work in documentary film on Tuesday, March 18, at 12:15 p.m. in E. H. Butler Library 208. Refreshments will be served. The program is supported by the Equity and Campus Diversity Minigrant Program, the Faculty-Student Association, the Dean's Office for Natural and Social Sciences, and the African and African American Studies Interdisciplinary Unit. <em>Best in Show</em>: Four Semesters of Student Work

This collection, located in E. H. Butler Library's mezzanine level through Monday, March  31, represents works from DES 242 Fiber 1 and DES 114 Workshop in Fiber for non-art majors classes. The body of work was created between fall 2006 and spring 2008 by Buffalo State students under the leadership of Carol Ann Rafferty, lecturer, Design Department. The work is shown in chronological order from the semester in which it was created. Additional student work from this collection is on display in Upton Hall's fourth floor gallery.

Elmes Scholarship for CSEA Members

The Robert J. Elmes, Jr. Memorial Scholarship fund provides a scholarship to members of CSEA Local 640 or their dependents who are attending Buffalo State. Elmes was working for Campus Services when he died in 1994. His parents, Robert J. Elmes, professor emeritus of communication, and his mother Nancy established the scholarship in his memory.
