The President's Council on Equity and Campus Diversity is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2008 Phillip Santa Maria Award for Student Leadership in Equity and Campus Diversity. The students were nominated for the award by faculty and students for their outstanding leadership in promoting respect for diversity and individual differences in student organizations, programs, and projects.

Lecture: The Land Tortoise and the Sunken Fleet of 1758

Join us tonight at 7:00 p.m. for a Houghton Chapter lecture series talk titled "The Land Tortoise and the Sunken Fleet of 1758" by Joseph Zarzynski, underwater archaeologist and executive director of Bateaux Below Inc. The Houghton Chapter is part of the New York State Archaeological Association whose purpose it is to promote archaeological and historical study and research covering the artifacts, rites, customs, beliefs, and cultures of the aboriginal occupants of New York State up to and including their contact with the Europeans. All Houghton Chapter meetings are free and open to the public. Lectures are held at the Buffalo Museum of Science.

Lecture: The Quest for the Origin of Mass, Hunting for the Higgs Particle

Doreen Wackeroth, associate professor in UB's Physics Department, will give a lecture on Thursday, April 17, at 12:30 p.m. in Science Building 272. She will discuss the search for the Higgs particle, which is predicted to exist by the Standard Model. This seminar is hosted jointly by the Physics and Chemistry departments.

Bake Sale: Come Support the HTR 330 Baking Class

The students from the HTR 330 Baking Class are hosting a bake sale this Friday, April 18, outside Caudell Hall 118 from 10:00 a.m. to noon, to raise money for additional bakeshop equipment. Please come and support them. A pre-order flier is being circulated to all offices and can be sent to chef Don Schmitter at Caudell Hall 117. Pre-orders are to assure you get the items you wish, but are not required. Baked goods will be available to all from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Pre-orders need to be picked up during this time, payment is due at pick-up. We will be offering: fresh apple and chocolate cream pie st $2.00 per slice, mini eclairs with pastry or whipped cream filling for $1.00 each, cinnamon rolls for .75 cents each, classic sour cream coffee cake for $2.50 per slice, New York style cheesecake for $1.50 per slice with fresh raspberries or strawberries for an additional .75 cents, and traditional chocolate chip cookies for $1.25 each or three for $3.00. Whole pies can be purchased by pre-order only! (Orders needed by Thursday, April 17, at noon) for $15.00 and whole nine-inch cheesecakes for $22.00 (also pre-order only). Safe Zone Work Shop

The Safe Zone project is an initiative to increase awareness of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGTBQ) issues. Our purpose is to reduce homophobia and heterosexism on the Buffalo State campus, thus creating a safer and friendlier environment for all members of our community regardless of sexual orientation.
