Urban Ethnographer Elijah Anderson

Renowned urban ethnographer Elijah Anderson will give the keynote address at the New York State Sociological Association’s (NYSSA) annual conference on Friday, October 17. Anderson, the William K. Lanman professor of sociology at Yale University, is the author of the classic sociological work, A Place on the Corner: A Study of Black Street Corner Men (1978), the second edition of which (2004) was recently published with a new preface and appendix, as well as numerous articles on the black experience.

McNair Scholars Program Recruitment

The McNair Scholars Program at Buffalo State is seeking high-achieving undergraduate students from all majors. The program prepares students for graduate study through a variety of scholarly and research activities. Up to nine scholars will be selected for the program this year. Please inform any student you feel qualifies for this program. Students can be referred to the McNair Scholars Program, Science Building 253. We will cover signing up for a RSS Reader service, finding RSS feeds, and subscribing to feeds. We will also cover some tips and tricks using and managing your RSS subscriptions. Update: Dr. Cornel West Tickets On Sale to Students Only

USG is presenting a lecture by Dr. Cornel West on Thursday, November 6, at 7:00 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center at Rockwell Hall. Tickets are available to Buffalo State students only starting today, October 15. Tickets are $5 each and students can purchase up to two tickets with their Buffalo State ID. Tickets can only be purchased in person at the Rockwelll Hall box office. The box office is open Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Application forms and program guidelines are available at the Information Desk in the Campbell Student Union. Completed applications must be returned to the Information Desk by Monday, December 1.
