NEH Summer Stipend Opportunity

Posted:

From the Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities
The National Endowment for the Humanities offers Summer Stipends to support individuals pursuing advanced research that is of value to humanities scholars, general audiences, or both.

Each campus may nominate two faculty applicants for summer 2015 grants. The NEA submission deadline is Tuesday, September 30, 2014. The campus deadline is Wednesday, August 20, 2014. Ben Christy, dean of the School of Arts and Humanities, will serve as Buffalo State’s nominating official.

Recipients usually produce articles, monographs, books, digital materials, archaeological site reports, translations, editions, or other scholarly resources. Summer Stipends support continuous full-time work on a humanities project for a period of two consecutive months. Summer Stipends support projects at any stage of development. Summer Stipends are awarded to individual scholars. Organizations are not eligible to apply.

NEH encourages submission of Summer Stipend applications from independent scholars and faculty at Hispanic-serving institutions, historically black colleges and universities, and tribal colleges and universities.

Nomination of College and University Faculty
Faculty members teaching full time at colleges or universities must be nominated by their institutions to apply for a Summer Stipend. Once faculty members are nominated by their institutions, they may submit their applications via Grants.gov. Each college and university in the United States and its jurisdictions may nominate two faculty members. Any faculty member is eligible for nomination.

Each institution must announce its nominating procedures to all prospective applicants. Prospective applicants should become familiar with their institutions' nomination procedures before the September 30 application deadline. Each institution should designate a nominating official, usually an academic vice president or dean. Nominating officials will receive an e-mail message soon after the application deadline, asking them to confirm the status of all individuals who require nomination. Confirmation must be submitted online no later than Tuesday, October 21, 2014.

Campus Timeline
Wednesday, August 20: Applicants will submit proposal drafts via e-mail to Ben Christy.
Wednesday, August 27: Academic deans will review proposals and identify two nominees.
Thursday, August 28: Applicants will be informed of nomination status.

More information is available at www.neh.gov/files/grants/summer-stipends-sep-30-2014-edit.pdf. Please direct questions to Ben Christy.
