Faculty Development Workshop: Perceptions about College Students with ADHD - November 13

Posted:

In fall 2013, teaching faculty at Buffalo State completed a 40-item survey that measured their perceptions of college students with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Independent sample t-test and ANOVA statistical processes measured false and reasonable beliefs related to the disorder. Results indicated that professors significantly differed in their perceptions regarding general knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs about ADHD and college students with ADHD. Faculty members will learn more about how ADHD affects students and how they can address these challenges in their classrooms and beyond during this presentation on Thursday, November 13, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in Butler Library 210. Facilitated by Holly Quicksey.

'After the Fire: A True Story of Heroes & Cowards'

Posted:

Buffalo State’s Student Success and Residence Life offices present After the Fire: A True Story of Heroes & Cowards, a documentary based on two survivors of a residential fire at Seton Hall University, on Friday, October 3, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Sports Arena. This event will feature a screening of the film and an audience and speaker Q&A after the film. Fire survivors Shawn Simons and Alvaro Llanos will be present to answer questions.

On January 19, 2000, Seton Hall University made national news when an arson fire raced through a freshman dorm, killing three students and injuring 58 others. Two of the most critically burned survivors were freshman roommates Shawn Simons and Alvaro Llanos. Lying in a coma, Simons and Llanos were unaware that a journalist and a photographer were documenting every event in their fight for survival. After the Fire proceeds from the devastating fire through the victims' grueling medical treatment to their return to the same school where their ordeal began.

This program is open to students, faculty, and staff at Buffalo State as well as those interested in the Buffalo community. This event is designed to initiate awareness and promote continuous conversations about fire safety issues on campus. All new residential students are mandated to attend.
