College Senate Vacancies: Call for Nominations March 30-April 10

Posted:

From the Chair of the College Senate Bylaws and Elections Committee
Three at-large College Senate positions will become vacant on August 31, 2015. Two of the three positions are reserved for academics. The third position is open to both academics and professionals.

At-large senators represent the entirety of the college. All full-time faculty and professional employees (PSC) are eligible to seek at-large senator positions provided they meet other eligibility requirements (see below).

The call for nominations for all positions begins Monday, March 30, and continues through 5:00 p.m. Friday, April 10. Elections for these positions will run from 12:01 a.m. Monday, April 20, through 11:59 p.m. Friday, April 24. The call for nominations and information about candidates’ statements will be posted on the College Senate website.

Eligibility: Current College Senate members who are completing two consecutive terms in their respective positions are not eligible for reelection. For additional information on eligibility requirements, please consult the College Senate bylaws.

Campaigning: The College Senate Bylaws and Elections Committee strongly discourages using college e-mail services for campaigning. Please limit campaigning to the candidate statement posted on the College Senate website (available to the college community on Monday, April 13).

Individuals running for a senator position in another election may not also run for at-large senator or university faculty senator positions while the other election is being conducted. If the other election concludes during the period when nominations for at-large or university faculty senator are still being accepted, eligible individuals may self-nominate for either position.

If you are interested in being a candidate, please contact Vince Masci, clerk 1 in the College Senate Office, ext. 5139. We look forward to your participation in the vital process of campus governance.

Join Us for an Evening with Evelyn Lieberman, -66

Posted:

From the Vice President for Institutional Advancement
Buffalo State College is proud to welcome the Honorable Evelyn Lieberman, ’66, to campus to deliver the 2015 Dr. Paul G. Bulger Lecture on Wednesday, April 1, at 7:00 p.m. in the Burchfield Penney Art Center’s Peter and Elizabeth C. Tower Auditorium.

We invite all members of the Buffalo State community to join us for this very special event.

Lieberman, a teacher turned White House insider, will present "This American Life," a behind-the-scenes look at her work in the highest levels of government with the biggest names in American politics. The presentation, which is free and open to the public, will be followed by a question-and-answer period and light reception.

Lieberman’s talk will offer inspiring stories and recollections from a remarkable life in public service—a life that came about a bit serendipitously.

As the first woman to be named White House deputy chief of staff, Lieberman served as a key adviser to President Bill Clinton and Chief of Staff Leon Panetta. She also served as assistant to the chief of staff in the Office of the First Lady, advising Hillary Clinton. Later, she was appointed adviser to Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. Today she serves as director of communications and external affairs for the Smithsonian Institution, the world’s largest museum and research complex.

General Control Environment Audit

Posted:

From the Vice President for Finance and Management
The New York State Governmental Accountability, Audit and Internal Control Act, Chapter 510 of the Laws of 1999, requires that all state agencies institute a formal internal control program. As a primary component of the program, SUNY has identified a number of high-risk areas for periodic review, and the general control environment is included in this group.

A small number of Buffalo State community members will be contacted during the next few weeks by an auditor we have engaged for testing controls. If you are selected for interview, you will be asked questions concerning policies, procedures, and business practices for your area. You may also be asked to provide documentation to substantiate your responses. Please respond honestly and to the best of your knowledge, as the results of this process will assist us in identifying any institutional gaps where internal controls can be strengthened.

I encourage your review of Buffalo State’s Internal Control Program website for additional information and welcome any questions you may have. If you have any questions concerning this audit, please contact Rebecca Schenk, director of budget and internal controls, ext. 4312.

Thank you for your assistance in this process.

Vice President for Finance and Management

From the President's Council on Equity and Campus Diversity
Nominations are encouraged for the Dr. Muriel A. Howard Presidential Award for the Promotion of Equity and Campus Diversity. We welcome nominations from students, faculty, and staff so that we might acknowledge members of our community who reflect these values of respect for diversity and advocacy for social justice at an awards luncheon on Tuesday, April 7.

Award criteria and nomination forms can be found on the Equity and Campus Diversity website. The application deadline is close of business Friday, March 6.
