Senate Caucus: May 8

The College Senate Bylaws and Elections Committee will host the annual College Senate Caucus for current and newly elected senators on Friday, May 8, at 12:30 p.m. in Butler Library 210. During the caucus, elections will be held for the chair and vice chair of the College Senate as well as for chairs of the Senate’s standing committees. Should two or more individuals seek the same position, electronic elections will take place beginning May 18.

The following positions will be filled:

College Senate Chair
College Senate Vice Chair
Academic Plan Committee Chair
Budget and Staff Allocations Committee Chair
Bylaws and Elections Committee Chair
College Senate Curriculum Committee Chair
Faculty Welfare Committee Chair
Instruction and Research Committee Chair
Standards for Students Committee Chair
Student Welfare Committee Co-Chair                                    

Please e-mail Amitra Wall, chair of the Bylaws and Elections Committee, to nominate yourself or someone else for any of these positions. Please remember that nominations will be taken only up until and during the caucus session.

New College Senate members are encouraged to attend the College Senate meeting immediately following the caucus.

Teacher Education Council (TEC) Meeting

All members of the Teacher Education Unit (TEU) are invited to attend the final Teacher Education Council (TEC) meeting for the 2014–2015 academic year on Friday, May 8, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Cleveland Hall 418. Elections for Executive Council positions will be held, and the focus for next year's direction will be discussed.

Woods-Beals Endowed Chair Finalist No. 1: Julia Hall

Our first candidate for the position of Woods-Beals Endowed Chair in Urban and Rural Education is Julia Hall, professor of educational leadership and policy at D’Youville College, who will visit campus Wednesday, April 29.

Please note that the curricular review process for the spring 2015 semester is coming to a close. All curricular items received by Thursday, April 30, will likely be reviewed. Curricular items received beyond that date will not be reviewed until the fall 2015 semester, as the Curriculum Committee does not review curricular items over the summer. Please make sure all curricular items are correctly submitted to the College Senate Office and have been approved by your associate dean.

College Senate Meeting: May 8

The final College Senate meeting for the spring 2015 semester will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 8, in Butler Library 210. Please note the one hour earlier start time. The Senate caucus (election of officers) will be held during Bengal Pause (12:15–1:30 p.m.) in Butler Library 210 before the Senate meeting. Please e-mail Vince Masci, secretary to the College Senate, with questions.

The College Senate elections scheduled for April 20–24 have been voided because of an error: a nominee was inadvertently left off the ballot. A new election will run from Monday, April 27, to 11:59 p.m. Friday, May 1. The election is for two at-large faculty seats and one at-large faculty or staff seat. Eight faculty members are running for the two faculty seats, and one professional staff member is running for the faculty or staff seat. Please note: no new nominations will be accepted; the nomination period has closed.

All votes cast up to this point have been voided. All those who voted this week are encouraged to vote again next week. We regret the error and apologize for the inconvenience.

Policy on Commencement Honors Cords and Accessories

The Commencement Committee, with the approval of the President's Cabinet, announces a formal policy on the distribution and wearing of honors cords and other honors regalia accessories by students at the annual May Commencement ceremonies. Storm Water Management Program Annual Report Available for Comment

The Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Office is accepting public comments on the draft Storm Water Management Program Annual Report. This draft report, which documents campus storm water pollution prevention measures undertaken during the reporting year ending March 9, 2015, is a requirement of the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) discharge permit issued by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

The draft MS4 report, instructions for submitting written comments, and other information on campus storm water pollution prevention efforts can be accessed from the EH&S Office storm water pollution prevention web page. A paper copy of this report is also available for viewing during normal business hours (8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. weekdays) at the Customer Service Center, located in the Clinton Center.
